THE POSITION
The Traffic Control & Lighting Supervisor plans assigns and supervises skilled technicians engaged in the installation maintenance modification and repair of traffic signal and street lighting systems and equipment. The position oversees field and shop work provides technical guidance evaluates equipment performance and assists in developing specifications for system improvements. Responsibilities include ordering materials and supplies maintaining records and reports and training and evaluating staff. This position also participates in an after-hours on-call rotation to provide emergency response and operational support.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
General direction is provided by the Senior Traffic Control and Lighting Supervisor. Responsibilities include direct and indirect supervision over traffic control and lighting personnel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
- Plan lay-out assign supervise and participate in the work of skilled technicians engaged in the installation modification maintenance and repair of traffic signal parking revenue control and/or street lighting equipment.
- Troubleshoot traffic light controllers and auxiliary equipment parking revenue control and diagnose malfunctions.
- Coordinate new traffic signal parking revenue control and/or street light installation.
- Provide guidance and direction to technical personnel.
- Test and evaluate new equipment.
- Construct special equipment or modify existing equipment as requested.
- Assist in developing specifications for traffic control and/or street lighting systems.
- Order materials supplies and equipment.
- Maintain work and inspection records and prepare reports as required.
- Assist in budget preparation and administration.
- Supervise train and evaluate subordinates.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
- Construction and inspection practices with regard to traffic signals parking revenue control and/or street lighting and related equipment.
- Methods materials tools and practices used in the installation repair and maintenance of electronic electrical electro-mechanical and microprocessor control devices.
- Principles of solid-state electronics and high-voltage electricity.
- Component parts of electronic and electro-mechanical devices used in traffic control and street lighting.
- Occupational hazards and standard safety precautions necessary in the work.
- Principles and practices of supervision training and performance evaluation.
- Components and parts of the most complicated state-of-the-art electronic and electrical traffic control devices.
Ability to:
- Use sophisticated testing equipment to identify problems and defects in advanced electronic and electro-mechanical devices.
- Interpret and work from blueprints sketches and wiring diagrams.
- Plan and assign work of traffic safety personnel.
- Use and care for tools equipment and testing devices used in electronic and electrical repair work.
- Supervise train and evaluate technical personnel.
- Maintain and repair the most complicated state-of-the-art electronic and electrical traffic control devices.
Experience:
One year of experience comparable to that of a Traffic Control and Lighting Technician II in the City of Sacramento or eight years of experience in the maintenance and repair of electrical and solid state electronic hardware computers or related equipment six years of which must have included working on traffic signal control and/or street lighting equipment. Previous experience must have included work in a lead capacity.
Education:
Specialized training in solid-state electronics. Must have completed approved training programs in the most complex traffic control devices.
