This recruitment will be used to fill the current career service vacancy as well as create an eligibility list which may be used to fill future corrections supervisor vacancies within the Juvenile Division for up to 12 months.
ABOUT THE POSITION: The Corrections Supervisor serves in a leadership capacity. The individual selected for this opportunity will provide oversight of the daily operations of the Juvenile Detention Facility. The Corrections Supervisor serves in one of the most important and influential roles within the Juvenile Division as a whole. They have an essential responsibility to ensure staff operations and various activities run safely and effectively. The Corrections Supervisor also serves as a mentor role model decision-maker and leader to promote values and ethics that build a healthy organization and thriving work environment. The Corrections Supervisor sets and monitors facility goals and objectives and participates in or chairs a variety of committees regarding Department issues. This role requires a commitment to best practices a strong understanding of juvenile detention ability to leverage resources and work well with various internal and external stakeholders to best serve staff and the youth.
Job Duties
The Corrections Supervisor serves in a leadership capacity over various areas of operations within the Juvenile Division. These areas include: Admissions Releases and Visitation (ARV) Orientation Hall Living Halls and various Administrative Duties.
- Staff supervision providing leadership mentoring andmonitoring.
- Plan organize and direct staff activities in a juvenile detentionfacility.
- Resolve operational issues; compose and administer disciplinary actions.
- Review interpret and implement policies andprocedures.
- Develop evaluate and conduct training for staff. Coach and motivate staff to achieve and provide effective servicedelivery.
- Direct and assist staff to resolve behavior adjustment problems of detainedyouth.
- Review behavior responses administered to youth to ensure compliance with departmentstandards.
- Coordinate and supervise implementation of appropriate procedures during emergencies.
- Investigate and prepare reports for assaults escapes injuries and other incidents. Assist and intervene as required to apply physical force and restrain confrontational youth ensuring compliance with Departmentstandards.
- Ensure compliance with physical facility standards of operation programming and maintenance.
- Work collaboratively with DAJD Human Resources staff to coordinate employee recruitment develop interview questions and participate in employment interviews; participate in selection of sub-supervisors and other specialassignments.
- Organize plan and manage multiple projects in a demandingenvironment.
- Manage time and attendance in accordance with policy and may be required to perform timekeeping functions whenneeded.
- Ensure that the facility is adequately staffed at all times. Develop implement monitor and evaluate programs and projects asassigned.
- Work with the courts to provide ongoing liaison and coordination to ensure client compliance to include making court appearances or presentations as needed. May be called upon to organize and facilitatecommittees.
- Compile and interpret data as necessary.
- Prepare written reports summaries correspondence and emails to effectively communicate and advance department/division objectives.
- Train and instruct staff regarding policies and operational procedures.
- Prepare performance evaluations for probationary staff and provide ongoing performance feedback.
- Represent the department at meetings with outside agencies attorneys and other departments as needed.
- Provide excellent customer service by maintaining professional conduct and communication at all times.
- Perform other duties as assigned within scope and area of responsibility.
Experience Qualifications Knowledge Skills
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Successful candidates will demonstrate that they possess the minimum qualifications listed.
- A Bachelors degree in social services law and justice or a related field; orequivalent directly related full-time work experience.
- Two (2) years of work experience in a Juvenile Detention facility; and
- The ability to build and foster collaborative relationships across several levels of personnel; and
- The ability to foresee problems and be proactive in dealing with anticipated challenges;
- The ability to effectively articulate complex concepts or problems to a wide audience and inspire a diverse workforce into finding solutions; and
- Demonstrated skills in effective communication both written and oral; and
- Demonstrated ability to identify assess and prioritize situations that require intervention and ability to solve problems creatively; and
- A valid drivers license or the ability to travel throughout the County in a timely manner.
PLEASE NOTE:If individuals selected are currently or have been previously employed with DAJD or King County there will be a complete personnel file review including performance appraisals and disciplinary records. Eligibility requirements:- No sustained disciplinary action as a result of a violation that occurred in the 12 months prior to the date of job bulletin closing. The 12-month duration begins from the date the discipline was imposed.
