About the role

The Soil Conservation Service (SCS) is part of the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development. It seeks an Area Manager to lead teams delivering specialised environmental consulting and project delivery services to a diverse range of clients.

This position is unique as it operates within a commercially focused framework in a government context. The Area Manager role is high-volume and requires the ability to balance competing needs and priorities while delivering effective results.

The Area Manager will oversee a team that provides specialised consulting and technical services while delivering soil and natural resource management construction projects. This role involves leading operational management driving business development enhancing technical capabilities and building client relationships. Additionally the Area Manager will monitor business performance against key performance deliverables and will ensure a strong focus on work health and safety (WHS). Another key aspect of this role is to lead and develop staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality client services.

About you

To excel in this role you will need proven experience in environmental consulting project management and construction. Our ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • Leadership in Operational and Technical Management: Oversee client service delivery ensuring high-quality consultancy and project management for effective soil and natural resource management.
  • WHS Governance and Risk Management: Develop and implement comprehensive arrangements to support project delivery.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships negotiating contracts and partnerships with clients industry government and other stakeholders to enhance business opportunities and the reputation of the SCS.
  • Quality Assurance: Embed the effective use of the SCS integrated management system to ensure high levels of quality and probity across all activities.
  • Specialist Knowledge: Extensive technical understanding in key services such as:
    • Natural Resource Management
    • Riparian Management
    • Erosion and Sediment Control
    • Landscapes and Revegetation
  • Staff Development: Exhibit leadership skills to foster a culture of continuous professional development and commitment to the businesss commercial success.
  • Resource Management: Demonstrate collaboration skills to optimize resource allocation across projects and advise the General Manager on significant issues promptly.
  • Strategic Vision: Ensure sustained commercial viability and growth while implementing strategic objectives to position the business as a high-quality specialist integrated environmental consultancy.
