Job Description
The Medical Records Technician (Coding) will provide full-time medical records coding services under the Performance Work Statement (PWS) for the Central Texas Veterans Healthcare System. Responsibilities include performing accurate compliant coding of inpatient and outpatient encounters reviewing clinical documentation validating code selections and supporting data integrity.
Technicians must ensure coding accuracy and adherence to national standards including CMS AMA CPT ICD10CM/PCS guidelines and all applicable VHA/VA policies and credentialing requirements (e.g. CPC CCS CCSP). Coders must meet established VA productivity and quality benchmarks participate in audit activities when required and demonstrate strong multi-specialty expertise. Inpatient Coding experience is mandatory with the ability to also code outpatient stays as needed.

The Medical Records Technician (ROI) will support Release of Information operations at the Central Texas Veterans Healthcare System. Responsibilities include processing requests for Protected Health Information (PHI) validating authorization retrieving and releasing records logging requests and maintaining strict compliance with HIPAA the Privacy Act VHA policies and federal guidelines. Technicians must ensure accuracy in release of information and adherence to national standards including those established by CMS AMA CPT ICD10CM/PCS and all applicable VHA/VA policies and credentialing requirements (e.g. CPC CCS CCSP). The technician must safeguard PHI at all times interact professionally with veterans legal representatives and agencies and maintain high customer service and turnaround standards.
Required Education:
