This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit where our focus is the design development manufacturing and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial civil national security and human spaceflight.

This role is a Product Development Manager within Blue Origins Engines business unit leading delivery of safetycritical engine avionics hardwareprimarily Engine Controllersfor costoptimized reusable propulsion systems that support commercial civil national security and human spaceflight missions. You serve as the singlethreaded leader for an assigned product scope owning programmatic delivery and the technical plan to meet negotiated customer requirements and internal design criteria such as producibility product cost lifecycle cost and reliability all aligned to lowering the cost of access to space.

You oversee the technical quality and execution of complex interdisciplinary engineering work ensuring cohesive collaboration across electronic design mechanical enclosure design and new product introduction manufacturing. The role includes establishing technical standards development processes and analytical capabilities while driving continuous improvement and sharing lessons learned across Blue Engines programs to enhance system performance and maturity.

As a people leader you directly manage electrical and mechanical engineers and related disciplines setting assignments guiding professional growth and conducting rigorous thoughtful performance management. You own the full employee lifecyclehiring the right talent coaching and developing the team and building a positive productive culture that complies with HR processes and policies.

Success in this role requires strong technical expertise program leadership and a commitment to quality and safety. You will help build highreliability avionics solutions through tightknit collaborative teamwork positively impacting safe human spaceflight while demonstrating passion for Blue Origins mission and vision.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Product Delivery:

  • Manage and deliver engine avionics electronic hardware products by ensuring scrappy and cost-effective execution while maintaining a tight grip on the project deliverables needed to meet program objectives. Track and manage your team execution and both unit product life cycle cost.

  • Ability to earn trust maintain positive and professional relationships and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Identify and manage technical and programmatic risks/opportunities. This includes technical scope (i.e. cost and schedule) asset and safety risks and opportunities specific to program and project execution. Risk management includes identifying documenting communicating developing mitigation plans and collaborating with your peers & program leaders to drive outcomes to program acceptable levels.
  • Coordinate and partner with Enterprise functions such as Operations and Supply Chain to drive product cost and meet delivery objectives.
  • Partner with other Business Units and centralized Blue avionics hardware teams on driving electronic hardware design and component re-use.

Employee Management:

  • Oversee the full lifecycle of your employees including talent acquisition employee development and when needed performance management.
  • Foster an environment of continuous growth and learning ensuring compliance with HR processes and policies.

Technical Leadership:

  • Own the overall lifecycle of assigned avionics hardware products from development through qualification/ rate production and successful cost-optimized commercial flight operations.
  • Manage interdisciplinary engineering tasks for overall system success.
  • Ensure the quality of engineering outputs providing technical direction and guidance to the team.
  • Participate in program level technology development mission assurance and safety initiatives and avionics development process improvements.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in electrical computer engineering aerospace engineering or related field and 10 years of experience developing electronic systems.
  • 10 years of experience in a relevant engineering field with significant experience in avionics and/or embedded hardware product development and maintenance.
  • 2 years of project management and/or management experience.
  • Basic knowledge across relevant engineering disciplines including requirements negotiation design development analysis verification and vehicle integration.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate across all levels of the organization.
  • Track record of leading and managing teams to deliver complex safety critical avionics hardware products.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in aerospace hardware/electronics development.
  • Direct hands-on experience and expertise developing electronic hardware products (analog digital and mixed-signal circuit design analysis test and debug and manufacturing)
  • Develop electronic circuits printed circuit boards as rugged electronic hardware assemblies across the entire product life-cycle; including concept and requirements definition design prototyping verification (power-on functional / acceptance / qualification testing) and release to production. Demonstrated expertise designing high-reliability safety-critical Class 3 board assemblies.
  • Lead developers of analog instrumentation measurement circuity embedded processing and mixed-signal designs. These systems connect with sensors and electromechanical/electro-hydraulic actuators. Designs include analysis schematics PCB layout and characterization.
  • Knowledge of signal integrity power grounding and general board layout principles
  • FPGA development experience is a plus
  • Familiarity Altium (or similar tools) to design complex aerospace boards; and experience working with external board manufacturing and assembly vendors.
  • Exposure to designing safety or mission critical aerospace flight hardware compliant with DO-254.
  • Exposure to development of high-reliability radiation-tolerant flight hardware intended for space missions.


Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $178452.00-$249832.80

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
