Saskatoon Reporter- (English Services) (On-Site)
CBC Saskatchewan is looking for two enterprising and collaborative reporters to work in our Saskatoon newsroom.
These are permanent full-time roles.
As an exceptional journalist and a self-starter you must be able to analyze a broad range of issues and thrive in the fast-paced high-pressure world of storytelling within a multi-platform newsroom. You will have endless ideas a fresh approach to telling stories and a keen desire to ensure our programming is timely relevant and reflects the news our audiences need to know right now.
You know how to gather write edit and package content for video digital and audio platforms. And you thrive on the pressure of reporting on breaking news from the field. You are passionate about championing stories and sources from Saskatchewans under-represented communities and you know that every story needs to include a range of perspectives.
As someone with a deep working knowledge of Saskatchewan (or the ability to develop one quickly) you understand its political landscape and its resource and ag--driven economy. You note the changing culture of the work highlights how these issues affect the day-to-day lives of the people who live here.
In this role you will ensure that your work meets all CBC journalistic standards and that our stories are fair balanced accurate thoughtful immediate and resonate with the communities we serve.
Please note: We are hiring two full-time permanent reporter positions.
Your responsibilities:
Pitch source research fact-check and present short and long-form enterprise stories that will engage the audience deepen our community connections and elevate a range of voices on all our platforms.
Respond quickly to report on breaking news events as they unfold on all platforms. (video digital social & radio).
Copy edit and publish digital content from other writers
Experiment with and develop digital video formats for digital streaming and YouTube.
Make full use of the content originating on all of our platforms by writing packaging stories with strong headlines photos video audio and graphics using the latest information and audience metrics.
Live up to the CBCs Journalistic Standards and practices.
Your profile:
Demonstrated experience working in a news and breaking news environment
Strong understanding of online news including social media and methods of online content distribution
Strong understanding of reporting for video and audio platforms.
Ability to generate pitch and pursue strong story ideas.
A strong proven connection to the communities we serve in Saskatoon and central/northern Saskatchewan and an openness to diverse perspectives and ideas.
Ability to forge positive team relationships and keen to work on a team that values collaboration and transparency.
A strong desire to live and promote the values of an inclusive and respectful work culture.
Attention to detail and strong time management skills.
Sound news judgment and ability to work effectively under newsroom deadline pressure.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills; a standout colleague.
A passion for learning new tools and journalism forms -- and an interest in shaping them for the future.
Must possess a valid drivers licence as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canadas insurance company other classes considered an asset.
University degree in journalism or equivalent with a minimum of three years of recent related experience.
Ability and willingness to work a variety of shifts including early starts late finishes and weekends.
