The Head Coach reports to: Athletic DirectorDuties and Responsibilities:General Duties Assigned but not limited to:- Coaches are requested to give members of their squads maximum opportunity to develop their potential. Coaches are to coach student-athletes in the fundamental skills relating to the sport in question and the application of such skills to a competitive situation.- Create and maintain a wholesome atmosphere for learning one in which exhibits such traits as neat appearance good sportsmanship respect for coaches officials teammates and opponents.- Set a good example for student-athletes and spectators when dealing with all officials and opposing teams.- Strive for improvement and growth by attending clinics conferences and courses pertaining to the sport and other matters involving our athletic department.- To establish and maintain a good rapport with the administration coaching staff and other faculty members and parents.- Attend any and all meetings called by the Athletic Director.- To abide by all rules established by the MIAA and Assabet Valley athletic department- Instruct assistant coaches and lower level coaches in the duties responsibilities methods and techniques of coaching that respective sport.- Oversee THE WHOLE PROGRAM - at all levels; including supporting the junior varsity level any time possible.- Conduct coaching meetings and evaluate the program for the future.- Other duties assigned by the Athletic DirectorPre-Season Duties:The Head Coach should seek out the Athletic Director PRIOR to the season to discuss the following:- Registration dates- Physical dates- SWAY Concussion clearance- Start dates; first practice schedules etc- Equipment that is needed for season - this should be done 2-3 months prior to the season- Equipment distribution dates- Team meeting- Any changes in rules according to the MIAA handbook- Uniforms - ensuring inventory is correct- Any order of items needed for the season (practice balls game balls etc)- Facility - work that needs to be done- Policies for the team that are developed by the coach - must be written out and handed to AD for reference- Ensure that all student-athletes are fully cleared through FAMILYID before they begin participating in their respective sportSeason Duties:- Communicate with both the coaches and AD about any scheduling issues or practice issues.- Check each players academic status on a weekly basis; punishments based upon the standards set by the Assabet Athletic Department.- Practice in their respective time slots - be mindful of other teams participating in the same practice facility.- Ensure that all facilities are properly set up before the game and properly cleaned up after the game - this includes locking all doors and gates at our facility.- Oversee all uniforms that are distributed - stress to the student-athletes that the equipment distributed is school property and must be returned. If not returned there will be a fee given to the student-athlete to replace the equipment.- Responsible for all equipment needed at practice (balls pads etc) and that they are properly put away after the practice.- Handle and distribute all clothing items that were purchased through a team store- Define and assure a proper/professional dress code for the student-athletes throughout practices and games.- Ensure that on away game days all student-athletes are present before the game and after the game - it is your responsibility to make sure that everyone gets back to the school!- Get the bus drivers cell phone number - they may leave to do another trip. Please make sure you have a way to communicate with them.- No student-athlete should drive themselves to any sporting event unless given permission by the AD.- No student-athlete should leave the sporting event without permission by the AD - a phone call needs to be made between guardians and AD.- If practice gets canceled let the AD know by 12PM. All fields that are affected by weather is up to the maintenance department and the AD will be in constant contact with coaches on that day.- Create a game day roster for dismissal times - if the roster changes frequently the AD must be notified that Duties:- Set up a time to collect all of the uniforms with the team and AD - a proper inventory list must be created when distributed and collected.- Prepare all equipment for reconditioning if necessary.- Submit a final report of the season - which will include answers to the questions in which the AD will send to you - be as thorough as possible.- Evaluate the assistant coaches of the program - ensure you are communicating with them on how the season went and how the program can improve in the :Medical Kits MUST be present at all practices and all games. It is the responsibility of the coaching staff to ensure that medical kits are secured from the Athletic Trainer prior to the start of any practice or game. If there is a shortage of supplies let the Athletic Trainer know and they will ensure it is properly injuries occur coaches are to do the following:- Give temporary aid to the student-athlete if a minor injury- If the student-athletes injury is severe or they begin to lose consciousness call 911 immediately as well as call the Athletic Trainer and Athletic Director- If the injury is extremely severe the coach should accompany the student-athlete to the hospital - this means making sure that another adult can watch the other student-athletes- All coaches must follow up by filling out the Assabet Injury Report Form.
