The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) is seeking enthusiastic college students majoring in education or early-career teachers (within their first few years of teaching) to join our team as STEM Program Facilitators. Facilitators will teach hands-on inquiry-based STEM programming to elementary and middle school students on weekends and/or evenings at IMSAs campus.
This role is ideal for individuals looking to gain experience in STEM education enhance their teaching skills and make a positive impact on students learning experiences. A training session will be provided before the start of each program to familiarize facilitators with the curriculum.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
- Teach or co-teach IMSA-created STEM programming to K-8 students on weekends and/or evenings.
- Participate in a mandatory training session to learn the curriculum and program details.
- Prepare materials and classroom setups for Saturday sessions.
- Foster a welcoming and inclusive learning environment that encourages inquiry exploration and curiosity.
- Ensure student safety during program activities including during drop-off and pick-up.
- Provide support to students as a classroom facilitator guiding them through activities and promoting engagement.
- Assist with the clean-up and storage of materials at the end of each session.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be a college student majoring in education or a STEM-related field or an early-career teacher (within the first few years of teaching).
- Passion for STEM education and a desire to inspire young learners.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to create a positive and engaging classroom environment.
- Availability on weekends and/or evenings
Preferred Qualifications:
- Elementary or middle school education majors or early career educators
- Bilingual English/Spanish
Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until all positions are filled. Compensation is $15.00/hr for college students and $22.00/hr for early-career teachers with their Bachelors Degree. This position is part-time contingent and not benefits eligible.
