The Department of Economic Security Office of Inspector General (OIG) is seeking an experienced and highly motivated professional to join our team as a Deputy Assistant Director. This position is responsible for the day to day operations of the OIG provides progressive corrective action and exercises a high-level of independent action and decision making. This position is responsible for overseeing business operations of the division providing leadership for major changes in business practices and providing oversight of division development and maintenance. The Deputy Inspector General assists with the OIGs annual strategy deployment process: data analysis goal setting oversight of plan development and execution progress monitoring and countermeasure implementation. This position also oversees personnel actions recruitment performance plans and status reports. The Office of the Inspector General protects the integrity of DES programs and services from fraud waste and abuse provides security for all individuals at DES facilities and continuously strives to improve efficiency and effectiveness to better serve the citizens of Arizona.

This position may offer the ability to work remotely within Arizona based upon the departments business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

All work including remote work should be performed within Arizona unless an exception is properly authorized in advance.

Job Duties:

Directs and manages the daily operations of division. Plans organizes and manages the division and ensures division effectiveness regarding all administrative operational issues and services and works to develop and implement division policies and procedures.
Plans organizes directs and coordinates program goals objectives and strategies governing the statewide operations of the agency. Confer with the Assistant Director administrators and executive staff concerning division operations and responsibilities provide information advice and direction when appropriate.
Assists in providing policy direction to division operations. Reviews existing regulations and proposed legislation relating to DES programs in regard to their impact on the economy and efficiency of operations as well as the prevention and detection of fraud waste and abuse.
Manages continuous process improvement. Direct the annual strategic planning process for the division including development implementation and monitoring of goals objectives and strategies track and report on division progress in achieving performance goals and objectives.
Oversees the identification review and discussion of areas of deficiency risk and vulnerability within DES programs and contracts. Keeps the Inspector General informed of issues concerning fraud waste abuse mismanagement and compliance deficiencies related to Department programs and operations.
Provides guidance counsel and instruction to subordinate administrators on technical and administrative matters. Makes technical decisions on problems presented by subordinates. Administers personnel and affirmative action/EEO reviews and approves personnel actions grievance responses recruitment strategies and status reports.
Represents and acts as the Inspector General at numerous function related meetings; handles special projects and assignments in his/her absence.

Selective Preference(s):

A graduate degree in public administration social work law or related field and a minimum of four years of executive level professional management or administrative experience of human service programs working with diverse groups and stakeholders.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Travel may be required for State business. Employees who drive on state business must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R.12.) AND have an acceptable driving record for the last 39 months including no DUI suspension or revocations and less than 8 points on your license. If an Out of State Driver License was held within the last 39 months a copy of your MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) is required prior to driving for State Business. Employees may be required to use their own transportation as well as maintaining valid motor vehicle insurance and current Arizona vehicle registration; however mileage will be reimbursed.
Successfully pass background and reference checks; employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agencys ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions.

State employees are required to participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) the State sponsored retirement contribution plan and the Long-Term Disability (LTD) program after a 27-week waiting period. The ASRS defined benefit plan provides for life-long income upon retirement.
