DescriptionIn accordance with the Vision Purpose and Values and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Working without general supervision the Occupational Therapist works as a member of a multidisciplinary team providing occupational therapy services to Mental Health & Substance Use clients and their caregivers referred to the team. Is a consultant/resource to referral agencies care facilities and caregivers. Provides general occupational therapy clinical services to team clients. Participates in the provision of education to the client the caregiver the service provider and the public related to Mental Health & Substance Use.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Training And Experience
Graduation from a recognized university program in Occupational Therapy. Current licensure in a practicing category with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC as an Occupational Therapist. Eligible for membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT). One (1) to two (2) years experience working with Mental Health and Substance Use Services clients. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
Skills And Abilities
- Ability to work independently as a member of a team and with deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to network with other services and agencies.
- Demonstrated clinical skills in working with the seriously mentally ill and/or addicted client.
- Ability to write clear concise reports.
- Ability to operate a computer including related software.
- Working knowledge of relevant legislature applicable - i.e. Mental Health Act Guardianship Act.
