Job Responsibilities
- Ensure Health & Safety standards are met by; coordinating promoting and conducting various OH&S programs and activities related to the OH&S Management System to meet overall company safety requirements through initiation and promotion of day-to-day safety policies and delivery of training activities for employees and management.
- Conducting OH&S assessments and periodic audits; implementing health and safety strategies and action plans; coaching and advising management of OH&S policies procedures practices and legislative requirements.
- Continue building a strong safety culture by; promoting the philosophy that safety is a value associated with every priority and is non promote a safe and healthy work environment based on employee involvement ownership teamwork education training leadership.
- Co-ordinate training and program development for industrial and mining establishments by; analyzing and assessing training needs; vendor selection; developing and delivering training presentations; updating training records
- Actively support preventative injury initiatives focusing on SIFs (Serious Injury or Fatality)
- Be visible to provide leadership coaching teaching mentoring and coordinate communications of occupational hazards and risks to both managers and the workforce and actively works with stakeholders to minimize risks and hazards.
- Support project team and supervisors by providing necessary coaching teaching and mentoring for all safety related items.
- Assist in the implementation of the Health and Safety Management System through initiation and promotion of day-to-day safety policies and delivery of training activities for employees and management.
- Assist with the design of standards programs and procedures to control eliminate and prevent disease or injury.
- Implement audits and inspections that validate adherence to company policy and laws and regulations that govern the health and safety of employees.
- Participate and assist in investigations following all serious incidents and injuries to establish comprehensive corrective action plans to prevent reoccurrence. Assist in the preparation of material and evidence for the organization to utilize in hearings lawsuits and insurance investigations.
- Advise on compliance matters with stakeholders regarding interactions with municipal provincial and federal agencies as needed (MOL WSIB etc.).
- Implement compliance process related to assessments and surveys (i.e. noise dust etc.)
- Provide subject matter expertise and develop practical solutions to resolve safety issues.
- Develop and deliver safety training materials; ensuring tracking system is in place.
- Prepare and maintain internal and external reports.
- Lead and support Human Performance investigations; support others to develop corrective actions; monitor completion of corrective actions and measure the effectiveness of the corrective actions.
- Actively participate in the corporate safety network leverage expertise to other Business Units/Regions/Divisions and help develop corporate standards best practices and guidance.
Requirements:
- University degree in an appropriate discipline or an equivalent combination of post-secondary education and acquired work experience
- 3-5 years of experience in Health and Safety preferred in the industrial and mining industry
- Possess a Valid Drivers License (Class G or equivalent)
- Sound knowledge of OH&S principles policies procedures and regulations
- Sound knowledge of business operating processes and procedures
- Sound working knowledge of provincial legislation and regulations WSIA OHSA.
- Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word Excel PowerPoint Project)
- Ensure safety protocols are aligned with the company Health and Safety Management System regulatory requirements and clients expectations.
- Conduct regular formal and informal site inspections to identify potential hazards and assess safety risks.
- Lead investigations into safety related events such as near misses medical aid incidents property damage incidents and other serious events.
- Stay current on regulatory change and best practices in the industry.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with local provincial and federal laws and the government compliance regulations including: MLITSD and WSIB etc.
- Ability to be responsive and persuasive at all levels of the organization.
- Excellent communication analytical and organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects/priorities.
- Strong attention to detail customer focus and sense of urgency to the project team and client.
- Strong written verbal and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to coach employees and management through complex issues and make recommendations.
- Perform work safely and effectively. Be able to understand and comply with onsite signage rules instructions and other policies and procedures.
- Exceptional organization and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and work in a high pace environment to a high-quality level.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of developing and delivering both theoretical (classroom) and practical (field-based) training programs for critical safety areas including Heavy Equipment Operation and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO).
