As the Seasonal Veterinary Preprofessional you will work under the guidance of the Conservation Centers veterinary team by taking care of sick orphaned and injured wildlife. This position offers job experience and training in veterinary care perfect for those starting a career in veterinary care.
What Youll Do
- Provide routine and emergency care to a diverse range of wildlife.
- Assist in medical diagnostic and surgical procedures.
- Collaborate on euthanasia and postmortem examinations when required.
- Maintain accurate medical and procedural records.
- Safely handle and restrain wildlife.
- Perform daily husbandry duties including cleaning feeding and monitoring patient enclosures.
- Follow all safety and biosecurity policies to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.
- Collaborate with staff and volunteers in a positive team-oriented setting.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
What Youll Need
- Must be 18 years of age or older at the time of hire.
- Current enrollment with completion of the first year (1) of degree in an accredited Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program OR current enrollment with completion of the first year (1) in an accredited Veterinary Technician Program (CVT RVT LVT) and must be in good standing in current program.
- Must have current rabies vaccination.
- Experience in observing safely handling restraining and transporting birds mammals and reptiles preferred.
- Experience with exotic or wildlife medicine preferred.
- Basic familiarity with wildlife rehabilitation philosophy.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks; strong organizational skills to maintain accurate records.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Schedule & Pay
- Schedule averages 40 hours per week over 12 weeks. This does include holidays as well as 1 weekend day per week.
- This position starts in May of 2026 and works up to 4 months.
- $16 per hour
Work Setting
- Position is based out of the DuPage Wildlife Conservation Center at the Willowbrook Forest Preserve in Glen Ellyn IL.
- Scrub tops are provided for the duration of the position. The employee is responsible for appropriate work pants and shoes.
