Job Summary

Position Summary
The Coordinator for Student Basic Needs ( CSBN or Coordinator) serves as an integral member of the Dean of Students ( DOS ) team specifically in the areas of both the Basic Needs and Student Care and Case Management. This position serves a crucial role in design delivery and assessment of campus programs and services connected to the DOS basic needs initiatives. Additionally this position serves in a case management role appropriately supporting students experiencing a wide range of personal and academic challenges as they navigate their Carolina experience. One area of focus includes but is not limited to coordination and operations for the Carolina Food Pantry Network ( CFPN ) and collaborations with other similar campuses and community pantry supports. More specifically the CSBN individually and collaboratively designs and delivers outreach events and educational programming drives the development collection and reporting of relevant data coordinates logistics and needs with various campus pantry leads and advises the Dean of Students and the Assistant Dean of Students for Basic Needs and Student Support on the needs trends and strategic development of the Carolina Food Pantry Network and the basic needs initiatives more broadly. The CSBN also provides highly individualized holistic care and support for UNC students and facilitates knowledge of and access to campus and community resources as well as wraparound follow-up. This highly collaborative position communicates (verbally and in writing) with varied audiences and is assigned departments organizations or constituencies to serve as the primary initial liaison to triage student concerns as well as implement outreach programs and services that align with the efforts of the Student Support and Case Management team. Additionally the position contributes to the design collection and interpretation of data collected throughout the lifecycle of a students engagement with the office leveraging the data to inform operational recommendations as well as solutions/strategies that support student learning success and retention. The successful candidate may represent DOS during high-interest events and outreach efforts and serve on university Student Affairs and/or department committees. The CSBN contributes to the daily functioning of and support for the Dean of Students office operations programs and initiatives including maintenance of print/electronic materials triage of telephone calls and walk-in concerns and meeting business and finance expectations. This position reports primarily in-person and for the purposes of Title IX and Clery the CSBN is a Responsible Employee and a Campus Security Authority.

Required Qualifications Competencies And Experience
* Experience effectively assisting and/or supporting a large and diverse caseload of individuals who are involved in or impacted by personal crisis mental health concerns trauma and/or other disruptive/disturbing life events (e.g. 1-1 meetings making referrals service coordination) with great care and sensitivity. * Experience effectively prioritizing and navigating complex emergent situations while adapting to changing priorities based on emergent needs. * Proven ability to work collaboratively and effectively as a member of a team. * Experience managing confidential and sensitive information and situations with diplomacy and demonstration of excellent critical thinking and sound judgement. * Excellent communicator (written and verbal) with experience delivering information to diverse constituencies in individual as well as small and large group settings using multiple formats (e.g. in-person telephone virtual/video). * Experience with the application of federal state and local laws policies and/or regulations. * Excellent time management and organizational skills. * Experience maintaining accurate records with high attention to detail. * Candidates must have a willingness to work some evenings and weekends. * Proficiency with operating systems including Windows as well as Microsoft 365 and Adobe products. * Valid NC Drivers License or eligibility to hold a valid NC Drivers License.

Preferred Qualifications Competencies And Experience
Masters degree or post-bachelors graduate/professional degree in higher education student affairs counseling social work psychology public health or other relevant field of study with relevant experience. Two to three years relevant full-time professional post-graduate/professional degree experience in higher education or related comparable field. (Two years in an applicable graduate assistant role may equal one professional year) * Professional experience working with college students in a higher education setting including knowledge of college student development theory as well as frameworks and best practices related to college student basic needs. * Direct experience in non-clinical case management in a higher education setting specifically in a Dean of Students office. * Professional experience at a highly selective competitive research University and the ability to work collaboratively with on-and off-campus partners including students student organizations faculty staff and community agencies. * Experience with the application of federal state and local laws policies and/or regulations specifically FERPA Title IX HIPPA Clery VAWA and others that are similar and apply to higher education. * Knowledge and experience using Advocate by Simplicity case management software. * Experience developing implementing and assessing effective programs operations and needs-based services using data to inform practice and/or policy. * Professional experience working with campus food pantries and/or food access programs. * Experience in student data management systems (Advocate Connect Carolina). * Proven record of sound judgment in advising of campus constituencies and in the development of programs and communications including web and social media content.
