Join the SBS faculty for the 2026-2027 school year!

The Stony Brook School seeks a talented mission-aligned faculty member to join our Visual Arts Department beginning in August 2026. This role is expected to center on our ceramics courses such as Ceramics I Ceramics II Advanced Arts Seminar and Middle School Art. We are especially eager to consider candidates who will ideate propose and help launch new course offerings that strengthen our visual arts sequence and prepare students for college-level studio art through rigorous skill development critique and portfolio-building.

Founded in 1922 The Stony Brook School is a co-ed Christian college-prep boarding and day school for grades 712 on a 55-acre campus on Long Islands North Shore. We unite academic rigor with authentic Christian faith in a diverse global community.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Bachelors of Art or Bachelors of Fine Arts in Visual Arts Arts Education Ceramics or a related field (masters degree strongly preferred)
  • Demonstrated growth mindset and eagerness to develop as a teacher mentor and colleague
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Eagerness to serve in a faith-based learning environment that emphasizes faithful Christian scholarship and character formation
  • Expertise in planning and delivering mission-aligned curriculum and lessons with clear objectives strong materials and thoughtful assessments that move students toward growth and mastery
  • Ability to teach both technical skills and creative process from introductory to advanced levels
  • Strong background in wheel-thrown ceramics including form function and surface development (e.g. carving slip underglaze glazing)
  • Ability to teach both technical skills and creative process from introductory to advanced levels including Ceramics I Ceramics II and Advanced Ceramics
  • Experience building student portfolios and guiding critique revision documentation and presentation of work
  • Experience with electric kiln operation kiln loading firing schedules and safe studio practices

Beyond teaching SBS faculty are active members of our boarding school community sharing in evening and weekend supervision coaching athletics or leading co-curriculars chaperoning events proctoring study halls and supporting community meals. Full-time faculty typically teach 45 classes lead or assist with 12 co-curricular commitments and participate in our residential life program.

Compensation

Salary Range: $34397 $106000 Final salary will be commensurate with experience qualifications and role responsibilities.
