In the senior school we offer the Middle Years Programme (MYP) to all students in Grades 6-10 and the IB Diploma Programme (DP) to students in Grades 11 & 12. We offer a holistic programme to all students that consists of experiential opportunities for students to engage in learning in the arts athletics outdoor education leadership roles and community service.

Position Purpose & Overview

SJS is seeking a qualified and experienced IB Senior School Teacher & Diploma Programme (DP) Coordinator. The candidate is required to teach courses in MYP or DP preferred based on experience qualifications need and interest. The IB Senior School Teacher & DP Coordinator will be a collaborative member of the Senior School and will contribute to the development of the curriculum and teaching experiences at SJS. Teachers at SJS are expected to exemplify excellent professional practice and high standards of teaching and learning. The teacher will provide inclusive learning opportunities differentiated to the needs abilities and stage of development of each student. The successful candidate will be adept at monitoring measuring documenting and reporting on learning. The successful candidate supports student well-being participates in co-curricular commitments of the school and is reliable in exercising their daily responsibilities.

Diploma Programme Coordinator

IB Regulations

  • Ensure all regulations set by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) concerning programmes and procedures are carried out properly and all deadlines are met.
  • Support students teachers and administration with meeting all requirements set by the Diploma Programme as outlined in the DP Assessment Procedures DP Principles into Practice DP General Regulations and IB Programme Standards and Practices documents.
  • Endorse the schools mission vision and values.
  • Model and promote the IB learner profile attributes and SJS values.
  • Promote international mindedness the attributes of the Learner Profile Approaches to Learning and Approaches to Teaching inside and outside the classroom.
  • Host DP information sessions and orientations for parents and students.
  • Communicate with the Advancement department about DP student activities and events.

Budgeting

  • Prepare and monitor an annual budget. Submit a budget request to the schools administration.
  • Plan and administer the budget for the DP.
  • Monitor expenditure of the budget throughout the curriculum year.
  • Liaise with the IBO to ensure that all relevant fees are paid to the IBO regional office (exams annual fees etc.)
  • Purchase and distribute IB publications and learning resources.

Administration

  • Communicate concerns of teachers parents and students with the Senior School Principal.
  • Liaise with the Registrar to ensure that all students registered for the DP are meeting provincial requirements for graduation.
  • Participate in student related meetings.
  • Work together with the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Primary Years Programme (PYP) Coordinators to ensure the IB Curriculum is delivered within the school.
  • Coordinate with the MYP PYP Coordinators respective Principals and Vice-Principals in the transition of students between programmes.
  • Conduct the Provincial Assessments (support the Foundations Skills Assessments and Grade 10 Literacy and Numeracy examinations).
  • Assist in completing reviewing and writing reports for accrediting bodies.

Prospective Students

  • Participate in the Admissions Process for new DP students.
  • With the assistance of the Advancement department prepare promotional materials.
  • Arrange information meetings for parents and prospective students.
  • Advise prospective students and their parents.

Faculty Support

  • Maintain the Managebac Student Information System for the DP division.
  • Monitor the assessment calendar and ensure a reasonable workload for students is spread throughout the academic year.
  • Maintain access for teachers on the MyIB website.
  • Ensure teachers have access to DP teaching materials.
  • Organize and chair meetings for IB teachers.
  • Advise on ways to promote and monitor academic integrity among students.
  • Communicate curriculum development changes to teachers.
  • Orient new teachers about the school structure and DP curriculum throughout the year.
  • Assist teachers in registering for professional development opportunities
  • Informing teachers of professional development opportunities.
  • Register teachers for conferences.
  • Organize and prepare in-house professional development for teachers.
  • Organize and prepare for professional development days that allow for
  • Horizontal planning among grade level teachers.
  • Vertical planning among the continuum
  • Ensure that CAS requirements are met and properly overseen by the CAS Coordinator.
  • Ensure academic compliance with the Ministry of Education courses and guidelines including the production of course outlines overviews and/or other documentation required by the Ministry of Education.

Students

  • Organize and deliver DP intro sessions
  • Liaise with the Senior School Principal and University Counsellors to advise students on appropriately challenging subject choices and selections.
  • Inform students about the IB DP General Regulations.
  • Liaise with Counsellors to support encourage and counsel students.
  • Inform students about internal school deadlines.
  • Act as an advocate for student concerns.
  • Meet with students parents and teachers to resolve issues and counsel subject choices and/or academic strategies.
  • Liaise with the Learning Strategies team to obtain information about students with specific learning needs.
  • Coordinate the completion of digital portfolios across the DP.
  • Coordinate IOs and execution of examinations.

Parents

  • Deliver presentations to inform parents about the DP its regulations and the importance of complying with IB deadlines.
  • Help parents understand the demands of the DP.
  • Communicate academic integrity and/or behavioural issues to parents of students involved.

External Vendors and Organizations

  • Liaise with offices of the IBO such as IB Americas and BCAIBWS.
  • Communicate with and visit other IBO authorized schools to maintain ongoing connections.
  • Organize and keep records of all correspondence with the IBO (regional and sub regional offices).

Extended Essays

  • Communicate with the Librarian to ensure that adequate materials and research guidance are provided to students.
  • Inform supervisors and students about the extended essay requirement as well as guidelines and assessment.
  • Ensure supervisors are familiar with the extended essay requirement and how it contributes to the DP.
  • Enforce internal school deadlines.
  • Ensure that students meet with their supervisors on a regular basis.
  • Ensure the timely submission of extended essays to examiners.

Examinations

  • Organize DP mock and written examinations for students and invigilators.
  • Liaise with teachers to ensure practice oral examinations for students and invigilators take place.
  • Maintain the security of examination papers.
  • Inform students and invigilators about examination procedures and regulations.
  • Provide students with individual examination schedules and the IB handout on the conduct of examinations.
  • Establish and equip a suitable location for the examinations.
  • Ensure that there is sufficient stationary for the examination.
  • Check requirements for calculators data booklets case studies and other authorized material for examinations.
  • Establish an invigilation schedule and information invigilators of the schedule.
  • Ensure that all invigilators are aware of their responsibilities.
  • Plan for the mailing of examination script to examiners within 24 hours after each examination and being able to follow-up any packages that go astray.
  • Ensure assessments are uploaded electronically on IBIS.
  • Encourage teachers to complete and submit the teacher feedback form after each examination for their subject.
  • Ensure students receive their results.
  • Liaise with University Counsellors to counsel students about their results.
  • Inform students about their opportunities for enquiries upon results and retaking subjects.
  • Convey diplomas diploma results and certificates to students.
  • Share results with Principal and department heads
  • The DPC needs to be available prior to and post the results coming out and coordinate with University Counsellors should grades differ.

Longitudinal Concerns

  • Invite graduates to information meetings for parents and students to act as resource persons.
  • Maintain records for use in recruitment and school promotional materials.
  • Liaise with teachers students and administration to plan for the long-term improvement of the DP within the school.

Senior School Teacher

  • Facilitate and deliver engaging and effective lessons in the Senior School (MYP & DP) across a range of grades aligned with a 0.2 teaching load allocation.
  • Design prepare and deliver learning activities that facilitate insightful engagement and utilize inquiry-based learning strategies to enhance student understanding and engagement.
  • Assess record and report on the growth of student success in alignment with the MYP/DP subject objectives criteria guidelines and the schools assessment policy and practices.
  • Create a safe effective challenging ethical and organized learning environment.
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of and passion for the subject areas.
  • Practice a universal design for learning approach to teaching providing differentiated instruction for all learners to establish an inclusive learning environment.
  • Maintain relevant understanding of and be active in using appropriate and effective technology to enhance instruction and learning.
  • Participate in faculty student and parent meetings and special events.
  • Model respectful and timely communication with students colleagues and parents in line with the schools Mutual Respect policy.
  • Attend professional development programmes participate in on campus professional learning attend professional meetings which relate to curricular administrative or organizational matters as required attend relevant meetings and training as scheduled by the Head of Department Curriculum Coordinators and Senior Leadership Team.
  • Engage or offer co-curricular activity(ies) for Senior School students.
  • Demonstrate reliability in and understanding of implementation of risk and student management strategies.

Required Qualifications and Key Skills

Education & Work Experience

  • A valid BC Certification of Teaching.
  • Completion of a Bachelor of Education degree.
  • Need to be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the International Baccalaureate programmes.
  • Experience and adept understanding of teaching Diploma Programme level and/or BC high school level courses.
  • Knowledge of the DP course content and curriculum framework is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of the DP core components (CAS TOK Extended Essay) is considered an asset.

This role will require working hours outside of school office hours: often evening events; occasionally going offsite to document student programs; and occasional morning and weekend commitments.

Conditions of Employment

  • The successful candidate will be required to complete child abuse prevention training concussion training Level 1 first-aid training provided by St. Johns School and provide consent for a criminal background check for the vulnerable sector.

Job Information

  • Full-time permanent contract from August 17 2026. The school year for the DPC runs typically from the third Monday of August to July 7 of the following year. The DPC needs to be available prior to and post the results coming out and coordinate with University Counsellors should grades differ.
  • Work location: on-site.
  • Comprehensive benefits package.
  • Annual Salary ranges from $67442 to $120860 based on the schools teacher 2025/26 salary grid. The annual salary ranges will be updated with the 2026/27 salary grid before the contract begins. Placement on the grid is assigned in accordance with level of education and years of teaching experience. Annual salary is prorated based on the length of the contract.
  • Annual stipend of $6000.00
