Job Summary

Work Schedule: Elementary & Middle School Non-Continuing 5.00hours per day(9:00 a.m. 2:00 p.m.) Monday-Friday.

Job Summary:

The Migrant Graduation Liaison will act as an advisor and facilitator for migrant students in order to help them complete high school and pursue post-secondary opportunities. The Specialist will work with a caseload of migrant students and will conduct building-wide activities for all migrant students as the need arises. All Specialist services will focus on the unique and supplemental needs of migrant students and will not supplant those activities conducted by other building staff such as counselors home visitors and teachers.

Essential Job Functions

This list of essential job functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary. Depending upon individual school building assignment the employee may perform all or a combination of several of the following duties

  • Inform migratory parents of community resources
  • Attend parent meetings
  • Acquaint parents of migrant students with the migrant program
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous quality improvement and system-wide goals
  • Comply with all district policies and procedures
  • Comply with the Code of Professional Conduct
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Desired Skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in English and in a second language.
  • Available to work flexible hours including some evenings.
  • Working knowledge of community organizations community resources and public services available for families.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in office skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with parents teachers colleagues and administrators across MSD.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Associatesdegree in a field pertinent to youth development prefered
  • At least 2 years of previous experience working families in a community or school setting
  • Valid Washington State Driver License Type II and evidence of mobility
  • Experience and/or training with cultural ethnic and language diversity preferred
  • Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance
  • Proof of Immunization (if born l /1/57 or later)
  • I-9 Employment Eligibility in compliance with the Immigrations Reform and Control Act
  • Completion of all district-required training within thirty (30) calendar days from hire date

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is not confined to a work area; he/she must be able to perform home visits drive to other locations as (Boys and Girls Club Youth Center Service Center etc.) as needed; required to have precise control of fingers and hand movements; experiences constant interruptions and inflexible deadlines; must be able to work at a computer monitor for prolonged periods; and must be able to crouch crawl bend kneel and lift/move objects such as files boxes etc. The employee is required to deal with distraught and/or angry persons and is exposed to infectious diseases carried by children. The noise level in the work environment is acceptable to this particular environment and can vary depending upon daily activity but will remain within acceptable ranges.
