A vacancy has arisen for a Squadron Leader (Any Profession) to serve as SO2 Support within Headquarters 6 Flying Training School (HQ 6 FTS) at RAFC Cranwell on Additional Duties (ADC) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS) with an initial proposed start date of 18 May 2026.
SO2 Support is responsible to Commandant 6 FTS through SO1 Strategy and Plans for oversight and management of the essential support elements required to enable all aspects of UAS activities both air and ground-based. Key themes within SO2 Supports Area of Responsibility include Infra Parenting and contingency planning associated with unit relocation if required. The post-holder acts as the HQ focal point for all such issues providing advice and guidance to both HQ staff and sqn cdrs across 13 operating sites distributed across the UK and Northern Ireland iot ensure the maintenance of effective delivery of all RAF Command Plan-mandated outputs. The post-holder is also responsible for stakeholder management in these areas maintain effective liaison with key external stakeholders including: Air Commercial Air Infra DEOPf DES and DIO.
SO2 Support is assisted by an SNCO Logistics specialist acting as Line Manager for the individual.
The successful applicant will be part of a small team directly responsible for both current and future sustainment of 6 FTS operations across the Defence Lines of Development by carrying out the following activities. They will:
- Assist SO1 Strategy and Plans with the development and delivery of UAS future plans and policy.
- Act as the HQ 6 FTS Infra focal point (including IT comms and 6 FTS-contracted ac refuelling capabilities) and/or in a support role to deliver UAS relocations restructuring and implementation.
- Support SO1 Strategy and Plans with development and maintenance of Infra Statements of Need (SORs) User Requirement Documents (URDs) Business cases (BCs) and other associated Infra-related documentation as required.
- Represent HQ 6 FTS interests at all 6-FTS-related Infra meetings including but not limited to Air Support Programme (ASP) 2.2 Infra meetings (Working groups and Programme Boards).
- Act as the HQ 6 FTS lead for Parenting policy and service delivery; and assist squadron commanders to resolve parenting and logistics issues that cannot be dealt with locally as required.
- Carry out the duties of Line Manager for SNCO Logs.
- Act asan ambassadorfordiversity and inclusion.
- Engender a Just Culture across 6FTS leading by example.
- Undertake any other duties as directed by SO1 Strategy and Plans of Comdt 6 FTS.
Furthermore in addition to your duties with HQ 6 FTS but within the terms and conditions of ADC service you will be required to carry out those duties associated with an officer of your rank. Normal working hours will be Monday to Friday 0800to 1700 although these hours will vary to meet specific needs and may include weekend engagements at specific sites and overnight stops away from RAFC Cranwell.
