Job Summary

BronxWorks helps individuals and families improve their economic and social well-being. Across our 60 locations we provide programs in a variety of service areas including workforce development children youth families seniors and homeless prevention.

Our family shelters are safe welcoming spaces where families can stay temporarily while they work toward long-term stability. Program staff provide compassionate support life-enhancing services and community-based resources to help empower each family. Together we guide families on their journey back to independence and into permanent housing.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide direct services to clients including engagement intake assessment service plan development referral advocacy therapeutic counseling reassessment and exit summaries.
  • Manage a case load.
  • Monitor and document client progress toward service plan goals; document all interactions with or on behalf of clients.
  • Provide group counseling as assigned by the Program Director.
  • Teach parenting classes as required.
  • Maintain familiarity with program resources available on and off site.
  • Coordinate client services with ACS and/or preventive services agency when a family is child welfare involved; participates in ACS conferences.
  • Coordinate client services with mental health medical employment educational child care and other social service providers.
  • Review and sign off on service plans and psychosocial assessments as assigned.
  • Conduct regular home and field visits as required.
  • Conduct regular case conferences with clients and services providers as required.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned including representing agency at inter-agency events.
  • Act as program contact person for inquiries concerning clients.
  • Assist with the supervision of paraprofessional staff.
  • Supervise all office functions in the supervisors absence as assigned.
  • Report to and meet with the supervisor on a regular basis.
  • Complete program reports.

PROGRAM SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Triage all clients who present for intake and completes a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment with each family.
  • Responsible for making referrals and appropriate linkages.
  • Facilitate group work.
  • Provides education/training to other staff.
  • Perform mental status assessments for clients presenting with difficult symptoms.
  • Provide direct services to a caseload of Jackson Avenue family Residence clients who are in need of short-term counseling crisis intervention risk assessment safety planning and psycho-education.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters degree in Social Work from an accredited school of social work.
  • New York State LMSW required within six (6) months of hire date.
  • Knowledge and experience working with diverse culture and ethnicities.
  • Knowledge and experience with groupwork.
  • Knowledge of strengths-based solution-focused and family-centered practice.
  • Knowledge of guidelines policies and regulations relating to child welfare safety permanency and wellness.
  • Proficiency in English required; proficiency in a second language preferred.
  • Proficiency in modern business communications including personal computers electronic mail voicemail facsimile and copier equipment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to use a computer for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to sit crouch and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift pull push and/or move up to 60 pounds.
  • Ability to climb stairs.
  • Ability to climb and stand on a 15 foot ladder.
  • Ability to bend and retrieve objects and/or documents.
  • Ability to travel in the boroughs of New York City and its adjacent counties via public transportation.
