Job Summary

Position Description




The Insurance and Recovery Specialist manages Harris Countys various insurance policies held by multiple departments to ensure timely renewal and procurement of policies coordinating payments to insurance brokers and maintaining a record of owned and leased facilities. This role also coordinates the insurance claims process when there is a loss and handles insurance-related inquiries from departments.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages the organizations insurance policies by maintaining a schedule of expiration and renewal dates for all policies and ensuring timely renewals including Request for Proposals
  • Participates in the procurement of insurance policies by preparing bid specifications evaluating vendor proposals and reviewing contracts.
  • Coordinates payments to insurance vendors and premium reimbursements from internal departments by receiving and reviewing invoices and working with the financial team to ensure payments are made in a timely manner to avoid cancellation of policies.
  • Ensures the organizations property is covered by insurance by maintaining a database of County-owned and leased facilities.
  • Coordinates the insurance claims process by gathering damage and cost documentation from departments corresponding with insurance carriers on the claims reimbursement process and attending site visits.
  • Assists with federal and state reimbursements (i.e. FEMA) by gathering damage and cost documentation from departments attending site visits and coordinating with the disaster recovery consultant and appropriate government agencies on the reimbursement process
  • Serves as a point of contact/resource to handle insurance-related inquiries from departments by remaining knowledgeable of county insurance policies and making inquiries to insurance brokers.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Finance Accounting Economics or Business Administration
  • One (1) year of insurance or risk management experience

  • Project management

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Mostly office environment but some outdoor activities may be required.
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift carry push pull or otherwise move objects including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Walking and standing are required only occasionally.


Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:

  • Full-time position with typical workdays of Monday - Friday and work hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Occasional overtime and weekend hours may be required to meet the specific needs and demands of the department.
