Position Purpose
The school kitchen manager reports to the Food Service Director and is responsible for the smooth operation of the entire kitchen he/she is assigned to. The kitchen manager cooks prepares cuts chips and slices ingredients. The kitchen manager maintains an orderly and safe atmosphere in the kitchen cafeteria and storage areas.
Essential Functions:
- Uses computer for daily tasks including but not limited to meal reporting and ordering of food and supplies.
- Assists in making sure that tables and surrounding areas are clean.
- May assistin operating cash register making change processing meal and other payments.
- Assists students w/ selection distribution of food disposal of food waste and return of trays/utensils.
- Maintains clean and orderly work areas in accordance with food code and district policies.
- Cleans kitchen washes dishes and assists in meal preparation and service.
- Completes other tasks as assigned by Food Service Director.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective organizational and problem solving skills.
- Ability to count and make change.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time and lift 50 pounds up to waist level.
- Ability to maintain composure and perform responsibilities under pressure.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others in the course of work.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality about students in accordance with applicable laws regulations and district guidelines.
Physical and Mental Demands Work Hazards
- Works in commercial kitchen with mixers chippers ovens steamers and slicers.
Qualifications Profile
Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
Certification/License:
- Motor Vehicle Operators (DMV) License or ability to provide own transportation.
- Valid CHRC
- Serv-Safe (or equivalent) food safety certification (required or must be able to obtain)
Experience:
- Successful prior experience working as a food service supervisor preferred.
