About the Role

We are seeking a Lead Industrial Support Officer (ISO) to provide leadership and coordination of our Industrial Support Team (IST). Our IST delivers remote and digital/online advice representation and advocacy for members. This is a pivotal role ensuring members receive timely high-quality industrial information and assistance through our phone and online inquiry service.

The Lead ISO will:

  • Manage and mentor the Industrial Support Team to deliver excellent member service.
  • Analyse data and trends to inform effective advice strategies.
  • Collaborate with Organisers and Lead Organisers to support member growth and retention.
  • Report regularly to the Assistant Secretary and contribute to strategic planning.
  • Drive performance improvement across the team to strengthen our unions collective power.

This is a leadership role focused on team management strategy and organisational performance improvement. While you may occasionally assist with member cases your primary responsibility is guiding and empowering the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the Industrial Support Teams phone and email service.
  • Allocate and prioritise workload ensuring are met.
  • Mentor train and assess team members to build capability.
  • Develop scripts frameworks and training to improve member conversations.
  • Prepare reports and plans for leadership and branch executive.
  • Ensure accurate data recording and compliance with union systems.
  • Liaise with members delegates organisers and external stakeholders.

  • A strong commitment to trade union values and the Labor movement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to lead coach and mentor staff.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience managing electronic databases and workplace information systems.
  • Knowledge of industrial relations legislation and instruments relevant to ASU members.
  • Ability to provide industrial advice and advocacy.
  • A collaborative adaptable and proactive approach.
