The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) Division of Administrative Services (DAS) IT Section is recruiting for two
Microcomputer/Network Technician 2 positions!
This position is in the General Government (GGU) bargaining unit at a range 16.

This position is open to Alaska Residents only.

This position is currently undergoing review as part of the prospective IT Job Class Study and therefore both the title and pay range currently assigned may be subject to change upon the final allocation.

Notice of Work Site: Please note this position necessitates on-site work in Anchorage full time to effectively collaborate with the multiple divisions supported by DAS IT Section.

Who We Are Looking For:
As a member of the IT team at DMVAs DAS division your responsibilities include delivering comprehensive end-user and desktop support managing network services for both local and remote users and assisting with the planning setup configuration and maintenance of servers networks microcomputers printers and telecom equipment. You will work under the supervision of the Microcomputer/Network Specialist ensuring seamless operation and support of IT systems vital to the departments mission.

  • Operating Systems: Knowledge of computer network desktop and mainframe operating systems and their applications.
  • Technical Competence:Uses knowledge that is acquired through formal training or extensive on-the-job experience to perform ones job; works with understands and evaluates technical information related to the job; advises others on technical issues.

The successful applicants must pass a federal background check in order to qualify for military base access which is required with this positions work location on base. The background check may include fingerprinting. All job offers are conditional pending successful completion of the federal background check and issuance of a Defense Biometrics Identification System (DBIDS) card allowing base access. Also you must be able to maintain the clearance throughout your employment. If using a private vehicle this will require a valid Alaska Driver License proof of vehicle insurance and a valid State of Alaska vehicle registration.

State employees are guests on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson; clearance and access are not within the States control.

Special Note:In addition in some cases employees must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC). As part of the examination process a background check investigation including a criminal records check will be conducted. Conviction of a crime will not automatically preclude appointment. The circumstances involved in the conviction will be considered.


Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in

  • Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: Uses a logical systematic and sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on ones knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.

  • Customer Service: Works with clients and customers (that is any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces including the general public individuals who work in the agency other agencies or organizations outside State government) to assess their needs provide information or assistance resolve their problems or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.

  • Information Assurance: Knowledge of methods and procedures to protect information systems and data by ensuring their availability authentication confidentiality and integrity.

  • Technical Problem Solving: Troubleshoots diagnoses analyzes and identifies system malfunctions to determine the source and cause of the problem.

Equivalent to those typically gained by:

Training or experience in some combination of providing customer service response diagnosis resolution and/or escalation of end-user issues with information technology hardware and applications; installing new computers printers and other peripheral devices; and/or loading and troubleshooting software and hardware systems maintaining security software and configuring network settings for workstations.

Special Requirements for the Position:
  • The incumbent may be asked to travel to remote areas of the state to support the Departments missions. The incumbent is required to support DMVA missions throughout Alaska including small villages and towns with no commercial lodging. Incumbent provides support to users/divisions/components at various locations on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson which requires driving by car or light truck to many locations on and off the 74000 acre base for support and face to face meetings. They may travel to Juneau Fairbanks and other in and out of state locations for support coordination and training. DMVA is housed on the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson military base.
  • Civilian workers support the administrative functions of the department which includes National Guard and Homeland Security and requires confidentiality and the ability to work in a combined civilian and military work environment.
