Job Summary
Position Overview
Na Aksa Gyilakyoo School is seeking a passionate and dedicated educator to join our team in a combined role as a kindergarten to grade 4 NumeracyTeacher (.6 F.T.E) and Grade K/1 (.4 F.T.E) Classroom Teacher . This position is ideal for someone who values holistic education and is committed to integrating Tsimshian language and culture into daily teaching practices.
Key Responsibilities
Literacy (.6 FTE):
- Plan and deliver engaging literacy instruction across multiple grade levels.
- Support students in developing reading writing speaking and listening skills.
- Collaborate with staff to implement school-wide literacy initiatives.
- Use assessment data to inform instruction and support student growth.
Grade K/1 Classroom (.4 FTE):
- Teach core subjects including science social studies and art.
- Create a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment.
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
Cultural Integration:
- Embed Tsimshian language and cultural teachings into all aspects of the curriculum.
- Collaborate with Elders cultural workers and community members to enrich student learning.
- Participate in and lead cultural events and ceremonies as part of the school community.
Qualifications
- BC Teaching Certificate (or eligibility for certification).
- Experience teaching literacy and/or primary grades.
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn Tsimshian language and cultural practices.
- Strong classroom management and communication skills.
- Commitment to Indigenous education and reconciliation.
