Job Description
The primary role of this position is to assist an Idaho Department of Fish and Game biologist with the collection of fisheries data. Secondarily this position may assist Avista or Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks biologists with similar work. Fieldwork duties include sampling fish using stream or boat electrofishing and identifying Bull Trout redds. Field duties such as operating and checking tributary traps and assisting with the maintenance of PIT antenna systems may also occur. Other duties may include collecting data from angler caught fish and netting mortalities and assisting with cleaning and maintenance of the Trestle Creek Field Station. Individuals may assist with compiling data using spreadsheets (Excel). Successful candidates will gain hands on experience working with Bull Trout (ESA listed species) learn about mitigation programs have the opportunity to work in fisheries across multiple states (in riverine tributary and lake environments) and be a part of the Bull Trout recovery effort. This position is located at the Avista Trestle Creek Field Office in Hope Idaho. Housing is available.
Optimum Start and End Dates: End of June through November
Requirements
- Positions at this level are seasonal and/or temporary
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred
- Must be capable of conducting strenuous field work and willing to work long hours nights weekends and holidays
- Must be willing and capable of being trained in the safe and proper operation of equipment (including vehicles & boats) related to a particular field of specialization or assignments
- Must be able to follow instructions and communicate effectively
- Requires a valid drivers license
Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Hiring Range: $18.84 to $23.84 per hour
This position is open until filled with interviews to occur starting in January/February. It may be filled on a regular basis without further competition at the conclusion of the assignment by the employee selected for the temporary position.
This position requires an in-person presence to support team and on-site responsibilities.
