Duty Editor (Breaking News Team), Reuters

Reuters is looking for an ambitious and experienced journalist to help lead its text breakingnews team covering the United States and Canada. Thebreakingnews team is at the heart of Reuters political and general news coverage of some of worlds biggest stories and eventsfrom Donald Trumps White House to U.S. elections and national affairs. This fast-paced team sits at the forefront of the daily news file and is the first responder to major stories. The team sends headlines/alerts and handles updates of major stories working hand-in-hand with reporting teams covering the White House Congress national affairs the economy and other subjects.

This fast-paced role requires deep knowledge of U.S. political and general news and experience covering stories or managing reporting teams producing stories quickly and accurately. To be successful you must bring energy and ambition but also a commitment to working with visuals teams to ensure our coverage is holistic across formats. You should thrive in abreakingnews environment and be comfortable leveraging artificial intelligence to improve our journalism and drive reporting efficiency.

The editor will help manage a dedicated team ofbreakingnews reporters working in shifts seven days a week. The role which will liaise closely with Reuters One Newsroom leaders and other U.S.-Canada editors will report to the Deputy Editor forBreakingand Daily News for North America.

This role will be based in either our Washington DC or New York bureaus.

About the Role

As our Duty Editor (Breaking News Team) you will:

• Take charge of majorbreakingnews stories across the political and general file including coverage of Washington
• Ensure we are delivering fast and accurate headlines/alerts and stories
• Planbreakingnews coverage around major events including speeches by the U.S. president or other top officials
• Manage thebreakingnews team creatively to ensure growth and development for our journalists alongside the needs of the file
• Work closely and collaboratively with other editors and with video and photography teams

About You

You will be a good fit for the role of Duty Editor (Breaking News Team) if you have:

• Deep understanding of U.S. political and general news including how Washington operates
• Experience as a reporter or editor coveringbreakingnews stories with Reuters or another leading news organization
• A strong work ethic team spirit and excellent organizational skills
• Excellent journalistic and management skills
• Understanding of Reuters systems and processes and ideas to improve them including by using AI

Thomson Reuters complies with local laws that require upfront disclosure of the expected pay range for a position. The base compensation range varies across locations. Eligible office location(s) for this role include one or more of the following: New York City San Francisco Los Angeles and/or Irvine CA; McLean VA; Washington DC. The base compensation range for the role in any of those locations is $146790 - $272610. This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance. Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individuals knowledge skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity. Base pay is one part of a comprehensive Total Reward program which also includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programs.
