Primary Purpose:
Under general supervision apply coats of paint varnish stain enamel or lacquer to decorate and protect exterior and interior surfaces trimmings and fixtures of buildings and structures throughout the district.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Clear and valid Texas drivers license
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of equipment materials methods practices and tools used in painting trade
Ability to properly apply paints
Knowledge of and ability to mix paint to match colors
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Ability to work independently
Experience:
years experience in painting field
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Maintenance and Repair
- Prepare surfaces for painting including sanding and removing old paint filling holes cracks and joints with appropriate filler. Tape float and texture walls and ceilings.
- Select premixed paints or mix required portions of pigment oil and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint to match specified colors.
- Paint surfaces using brushes spray gun paint rollers or other methods to achieve required effects. Stain seal and varnish wood surfaces.
- Erect scaffolding set up ladders or use hoists to perform tasks above ground level.
- Pick up and deliver painting supplies to campuses; maintain delivery records.
- Receive and complete work orders. Identify and complete needed repairs on buildings grounds and equipment using established inspection procedures. Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
- Maintain inventory of tools and assist with inventory control of materials and equipment.
- Inspect jobs after completion and ensure areas are clean.
Safety
- Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensure equipment is in safe operating condition.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Handle and dispose of paint stain varnish and other chemicals according to established procedures.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Tools/Equipment Used: Painting and drywall tools and equipment including brush roller spray equipment sand and water blaster; small hand tools power tools and measuring tools; light truck or van
Posture: Frequent standing kneeling/squatting bending/stooping pushing/pulling and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions
Motion: Frequent walking climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding grasping/squeezing wrist flexion/extension and overhead reaching; frequent driving
Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis
Environment: Work outside and inside on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures dust toxic chemicals and materials noise vibration and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel
