About the job:

The Safety Services Manager leads a team of Safety Management Consultants or other safety professionals to deliver growth exceptional customer experience and continuous improvement in delivering safety consultative services to MSF policyholders and the broader Montana. This role balances technical expertise with people leadership building an engaged curious empowered and accountable team that delivers a high-quality consultative product. The position consists of primarily management duties plus some individual book of business work. Management work is approximately 60-75% of workload and individual book of business work approximately 25-40% of workload.

Required Skills

What you will do:

  • Lead and Engage the Team: Serve as the direct leader of a portion of the larger Safety Services team. Build a high-performing engaged team that takes ownership for results and growth. Foster a culture of curiosity and continuous learning where every team member feels valued and empowered to contribute ideas. Encourage accountability through clear expectations regular feedback and visible recognition of contributions and outcomes. Ensure the team understands how their work connects to delivering an exceptional experience for customers and agency partners. Maintain high familiarity with individual books of business and provide insightful guidance to team members on BOB management.
  • Develop People and Future Talent:Hire new employees then oversee their onboarding process to ensure skill development cultural alignment and successful transition into the MSF team. Oversee the performance management process for direct reports. Provide coaching mentoring and individualized development plans as needed to strengthen consultative and customer experience capability while fostering career growth. Create opportunities and learning experiences that build judgment technical skill and confidence. Identify and develop individuals within the team to ensure strong succession and depth of expertise.
  • Drive Excellence and Quality: Ensure the efficient and effective delivery of consultative services by guiding team members in allocating their time and resources to the right customers to the right degree. Use customer feedback and performance data to continuously refine processes and improve customer experience. Implement review and feedback processes that reinforce learning and quality improvement. Use data and insights to identify trends improve decision accuracy and strengthen book performance.
  • Model Leadership and Cultural Values:Lead with empathy curiosity and integrity setting the tone for collaboration trust and respect. Demonstrate adaptability and resilience in managing change and guiding others through it. Champion a culture that balances high performance with genuine care for people and customers and serve as a visible advocate for continuous improvement and innovation within the team function.
  • Safety Services Team Management:Partner with the Safety Services Director to lead and engage the larger Safety Services team including serving as backup for the Director when needed. Collaborate with the Director to ensure consistency and fairness in the separate supervision of same employee positions. Lead team meetings including insightful content development. Determine team professional development needs and facilitate team training. Guide the team in the efficient expenditure of MSF resources and approve team member expense reports and other team-level expenditures. Contribute to the development and management of the annual team budget. Manage varying work schedules including approved absences and approve team member reported work hours. Build strong relationships with leadership of other MSF disciplines and manage complex relationship dynamics to promote interdepartmental collaboration and customer experience delivery.
  • Drive Financial and Operational Performance:Provide safety consultative services to an abbreviated book of business (25-40% of workload) similar to that performed by a Safety Management Consultant. Perform at a very high standard of BOB management and provide exceptional customer experience to model this for team members. Model excellent adherence to internal guidelines and processes while still fostering a culture of innovation and creativity. Maintain a high degree of technical expertise in all MSF and Safety Services systems and processes in respect to how they are applied to managing a book of business. Continually strive for team improvement by utilizing first-hand BOB management experience to inform MSF and team-level decision making.

Required Experience

What you will need (minimum qualifications):

  • 6 years progressively responsible experience at MSF as an SMC I SMC II SMC III Senior SMC Safety Outreach Specialist or combination thereof
  • 10 years total experience in occupational safety risk management or related field
  • Bachelors degree in Occupational Safety and Health or a related field
    • or equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred

  • Professional designation such as CSP ARM CPCU AIS or other related designations in the safety risk management or insurance fields
  • Leadership or lead worker experience in areas such as coaching/mentoring onboarding of new employees project/program management or strategy development and implementation.
Job Location: This position requires occasional presence in the Helena MT office. Additionally this position includes working in the field which involves frequent travel throughout the assigned field area.
Working conditions:
Fast paced general office environment. Some stress may occur. Frequent travel expected for servicing policies and other business traveling with team members and for organization specific events. Requires sitting for extended periods of time standing visual acumen driving manual dexterity detailed verbal communications and fine finger manipulation for working with computer keyboards.
Compensation and Benefits: Pay range MGR. Starting salary for this exempt position begins at $92400 - $115500. The max salary for this range is $138600.
