Reports To: External Relations Administrator

Work Schedule/FLSA Status: 12 months/Salaried exempt

Salary Schedule: Specialist 1 Grade 92A starts at $61292.81 per year. Salary credit may be awarded for applicable experience.


Position Purpose:
As a central part of the District Communications team the Video Multimedia Specialist will shape and execute storytelling across platforms and communication channels. This position will serve as the school districts primary videographer capturing both audio and photo stories as needed. The position works closely with a district photography multimedia specialist social media specialist public relations manager and external relations administrator to develop and share news and information with district stakeholders. This individual must be capable of working independently to quickly produce professional content. The ideal candidate will possess strong writing narrating and creative video skills with experience in social media and digital news writing.

Candidates will be expected to provide a link to their work examples/portfolio during the application process.

Essential Performance Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with fellow District Communications staff to develop story ideas within the district.
  • Independently plan and schedule visits to school communities to conduct interviews record video (b-roll) audio and/or capture photos.
  • Efficiently edit high-quality video audio and/or photo stories which may be narrated or not for publication on a variety of district platforms.
  • Coordinate with District Communications staff to post/publish content on the appropriate channels.
  • Collaborate with District Communications staff to measure engagement on video projects to effectively focus future storytelling.
  • Manage the video livestream for public Board of Education meetings.
  • Assist with external media requests as needed.
  • Assist with crisis communications as needed.

Additional Duties:Performs other related tasks as assigned by supervisor and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment: This position may require the use of basic office equipment includingcomputers copiers and scanners. Must always comply with OPSs guidelines for equipment use. Drone pilot certification preferred.

Travel: Travel within the District will be required.

  • Must be able to respond rapidly in emergency situations.
  • Must have strong organization time management communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Work in an office environment and school buildings.
  • Ability to lift move and reposition objects and materials- frequently exerting force equal to lifting fifty (50) pounds.

Interrelations:

  • Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors/
  • Will work under the direct supervision of department administrators to complete day-to-day tasks.
  • Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues.
  • Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly professional manner and provide quick responsive customer service.

Employee Punctuality and Appearance:

  • In order for schools to operate effectively employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday unless the employee has received approved leave.
  • Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employees supervisor or building administrator.
  • All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of Omaha Public Schools and is appropriate for their position.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelors degree in video journalism video production communications or related field.
  • A minimum of four years of successful video/broadcast journalism experience including on-camera presence.
  • Familiarity with the operation of broadcast/livestream control room broadcasting and recording equipment preferred.
  • Four years experience with video/broadcast news style script writing.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms preferred.
  • Ability to record professional-quality news style videography.
  • Ability to interview a wide range of people including students throughout the district.
  • Ability to narrate scripts.
  • Ability to edit news style packages using non-linear editing system.
  • Ability to sometimes meet short stringent deadlines.
  • Ability to work with high school video production students.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends.
  • Must have reliable transportation to travel within the District; mileage reimbursement will be provided.
  • Exemplary oral and written communication skills.
  • Exemplary skills in leadership and interpersonal relations.

Terms of Employment:

This position is treated as a full-time exempt classified position. The terms of your employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment in a Nebraska public school and Board of Education policies as those laws and policies may change from time to time. If your position is represented by a collective bargaining representative then your employment will also be governed by a negotiated agreement between OPS and that collective bargaining representative.

  • Obtaining and providing verification of all licenses certificates and other requirements for the position (e.g. Paraprofessionals obtaining Highly Qualified status etc.) as identified and maintaining all licenses certificates and requirements for your position throughout employment.
  • A background check which demonstrates to OPS that background is acceptable for the position.
  • Verification of U.S. citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (if required for position offered).
  • Successful completion of a tuberculosis skin test (if required for position offered).
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment medical examination to determine ability to safely and effectively perform the essential functions of the position.
