Job Description:

The University of Florida Department of Neurological Surgery in partnership with the Norman Fixel Institute for Neurological Diseases invites applications from qualified individuals for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. We seek outstanding candidates with research expertise in movement disorders functional neurosurgery imaging connectomics and/or neuromodulation.

The Lillian S. Wells Department of Neurosurgery is committed to providing comprehensive clinical services for the diagnosis management treatment and rehabilitation of patients suffering from diseases of the brain spinal cord and nervous system including brain tumors aneurysms stroke epilepsy functional disorders and spinal disorders and injuries. Our research labs and investigator-led initiatives and clinical trials are developing promising new treatments for neurological diseases that are extremely difficult to treat with conventional therapies. The Department of Neurosurgery offers education and training programs such as ACGME-accredited neurosurgery residency programs and fellowship programs.

This position will focus on clinical translational research in the areas of functional medicine and movement disorders. The research of this position will center on identifying neurophysiological signatures of depression and anxiety in patients with Parkinsons disease. Expected Activities will include:

  • Innovative research programs to advance our understanding within the field and broad and impactful contributions to clinical care in deep brain stimulation (DBS) for movement disorders.
  • Continuous application for high-level awards to enable advancement in functional research
  • Memberships and participation in national societies and conferences
  • Maintaining a strong research program: the candidate is expected to actively pursue and manage research projects (grants contracts etc.) and ensure continuous productivity in research activities.
  • Mentoring graduate students: The individual will oversee the work of graduate students providing mentorship guidance on research and potentially serving as their thesis/dissertation advisor.
  • Collaborating with other faculty members inside and outside the department: Collaboration is encouraged both within the department and across disciplines fostering interdisciplinary research initiatives.
  • Involvement in service to the university and the profession: This includes participating in committees reviewing academic papers organizing conferences and contributing to the academic community within the university and the broader field.
Expected Salary:

$130000

Minimum Requirements:

Ph.D. M.D. or M.D./Ph.D

Preferred Qualifications:

Ph.D and/or M.D in Biomedical Engineering.
