Job Summary: The Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse provides comprehensive family-centered care to patients throughout labor delivery and immediate postpartum recovery. This role requires strong intrapartum clinical skills the ability to respond quickly to obstetric emergencies and experience in a hospital-based L&D setting. The RN collaborates closely with obstetricians midwives anesthesiologists pediatric teams and support staff to ensure safe high-quality maternal and neonatal outcomes. This is a 36-hour/week night shift (7:00 PM 7:30 AM) position.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to laboring patients including assessments fetal monitoring and labor management.
- Assist with vaginal deliveries obstetric emergencies and support cesarean section preparation as needed.
- Monitor maternal fetal well-being and respond promptly to changes in clinical status.
- Administer medications including those used in induction augmentation pain management and emergency situations.
- Document assessments interventions and outcomes accurately using EPIC (highly preferred).
- Collaborate with physicians midwives anesthesiologists NICU teams and other interdisciplinary staff.
- Provide emotional support and education to mothers partners and families throughout the perinatal process.
- Support postpartum recovery and newborn stabilization when indicated.
- Maintain a safe environment by adhering to hospital obstetric protocols infection control and fetal monitoring standards.
- Participate in patient teaching regarding labor expectations breastfeeding newborn care and discharge instructions.
- Follow the standard 3 12 schedule for L&D staffing.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of intrapartum/L&D experience in a hospital setting Required
- Minimum 2 years of overall RN experience Required
- Strong fetal monitoring interpretation and rapid-response skills
- EPIC EMR experience highly preferred
Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Required
Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Required
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Required
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Required
License: Active New York State Registered Nurse License Required
