Transylvania University is in search of a dynamic and compassionate professional to play a pivotal role as a Student Counselor & Health Educator. This role with a strong emphasis on health education and wellness promotion is crucial in supporting the holistic well-being of our students. It combines direct clinical services with proactive campus-wide health education initiatives. The ideal candidate will be a licensed mental health professional with a strong background in health promotion prevention programming and inclusive outreach strategies. This is a 9 months per year position mid August - May.
Counseling & Student Support Services: (65% of position)
- Provide short-term individual therapy and psycho-education to students facing emotional academic or interpersonal challenges.
- Conduct intake assessments and create treatment plans with appropriate referrals when needed including to off-campus providers.
- Maintain accurate confidential clinical documentation by professional standards and legal requirements.
- Serve as a consultative resource for faculty and staff regarding student mental health and well-being.
- Collaborate with the Dean of Student Success and other campus units to identify and address student health trends.
Health Education & Wellness Promotion: (35% of position)
- Develop and implement evidence-based health education programs and prevention initiatives addressing topics such as mental health substance use sexual health nutrition and stress management.
- Partner with campus stakeholders (Residence Life Athletics Academic Affairs Student Organizations etc.) to deliver engaging outreach and training tailored to student populations.
- Evaluate program effectiveness and continuously refine content based on student feedback and emerging trends in college health.
- Coordinate with the Dean of Student Success to deliver the HAWK Assessment and implementation of programming through the RAMSE Kentucky Coalition for Responsible Alcohol & Substance Misuse Education Program
Qualifications
Masters degree required (Counseling Social Work Public Health Health Education or a related field) and Licensure (or license eligibility) as a counselor social worker or mental health professional in Kentucky.
