ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Councils Finance team sits within the Corporate Performance Directorate and provides expert leadership and guidance to the organisation in all aspects of Councils finances and end to end financial processes across the organisation including payroll accounts payable and receivable rates valuations revenue recovery and financial analytics.

The Rates team is part of the Finance team and is committed to providing high quality service to all stakeholders including our Community and Executive team as well as all Council staff. The team provides timely and accurate advice utilises better practice methods procedures and continuous improvement methodologies while developing new and innovative solutions to problems in a consultative and customer focused manner.

In contributing to this vision the Rates Officer is responsible for ensuring that all operations of rating are processed according to established work plans Councils policies and appropriate legislation as well as providing high quality customer service and advice to internal and external customers.

The successful applicant will require:

  • Minimum three years experience working in a Local Government Rates role or relevant tertiary qualifications equivalent to Certificate IV in Business Administration
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of the relevant sections of the Local Government Act 1993 relating to Rates & Property
  • Demonstrated prioritization skills and the ability to manage multiple issues with competing deadlines concurrently and also the ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation and function effectively in a statutory/regulatory environment
  • Demonstrated skills in developing and utilizing rating software
  • Proven ability to be meticulous and pay attention to detail to work related activities
  • Proven ability to work productively as a member of a team and contribute to team goals
  • Class C NSW Drivers Licence

About this role:

  • Permanent position
  • 70 hour fortnight
  • Access to Councils 9 day fortnight Accrued Day Off (ADO)
  • Located at Councils Merrylands with occasional travel required across Council worksites and may be required to work across any of Councils work locations

Salary information: The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.

  • Grade 8 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of $1376.59 to $1686.33 per week plus 12% superannuation
  • The commencing salary will be negotiated taking into consideration the successful applicants qualifications skills and experience related to the role

What youll need to have for this role:

  • The right to live and work in Australia
  • Be able to provide information for pre-employment checks required for the position including attending a physical pre-employment medical examination as required
  • Participate in health monitoring as outlined in the risk assessment for this position and Councils Health Monitoring Procedure as required.
