Job Summary

The Research Safety division of the Environmental Health & Safety is responsible for laboratory safety programs at Boston University and Boston Medical Center. The Research Safety division develops maintains and implement safety programs policies and procedures in accordance with federal state and local laws standards and other applicable regulations and best practices. The program assists the Institutional Biosafety Committee Laboratory Safety Committee and the Institutional Animal Use and Care Committee by providing reports serving as technical subject matter experts and assisting with the development of policies procedures and guidance documents. This position works closely with the their assigned schools and departments to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations. The research safety specialists also perform the following: laboratory design consultations; review and design of safe research experiments; implementation of safety policies and procedures; comprehensive laboratory verification inspections; review of activities involving the use of hazardous materials including but not limited to infectious biological substances recombinant DNA hazardous chemicals toxic gases controlled substances; emergency action plans; health & safety training; provide guidance and training on transport and shipping of biological materials and chemicals; review use of hazardous materials in research and experimental animal procedures; and coordinate visits and inspections by outside regulatory agencies.

Required Skills

Bachelors and 3 years of related experience.
