Summary
Prepare patients for diagnostic procedures by explaining the process and positioning patients to correctly capture the images requested by a physician.
Responsibilities
Performs ultrasound procedures on appropriate anatomical regions in accordance with accepted standards of practice and protocols of the individual site Radiologist according to the modality of hire and/or training.
Verifies orders and preparation of each patient. Verifies patient identification reviews the requisition and chart and explains procedures to patient.
Performs procedure as prescribed by physician.
Completes and signs all patient screening forms and explains procedure to the patient. Prepares tech sheets for radiologist review.
Records test results and updates patient records for referring physician. Records charges completes radiology requisitions and verifies images on PACS.
Cleans and disinfects equipment and room after each use. Stocks rooms as needed.
Maintains patient care comfort and safety during transport to and from exam room.
Maintains supply levels and logs.
Maintains technical competency through continued education.
Maintains current licensure and certifications for modality of hire.
Cooperates with facility healthcare personnel and complies with facility policies and procedures.
Is able to care for and perform studies on patients of infancy through geriatric age groups.
Works cooperatively as part of the team to maintain a work environment that promotes mutual respect and professionalism.
Follows all safety rules while on in performance improvement activities that ensure important processes and activities are measured assessed and improved systematically.
Supports the ThinkQuality culture and is committed to key constituent / RISK / COMPLIANCE / OSHAMaintains and supports a safe and compliant environment.
Complies with all hospital Federal Medicare/Medicaid/State standards policies and all security passwords given to him/her.
Maintains storage of all hospital data essential for hospital functioning on the server not the C drive.
Keeps current on the knowledge of the CPSI system and Office Applications as it applies to the job staff and patient information within HIPAA privacy CAREFunctions within professional scope of practice.
Ensures the patient is imaged in a safe environment free of hazards.
Identifies patients using approved identifiers.
Provides full attention to the patient and the procedure.
Sets up patient studies utilizing approved protocols/procedures and brings questions forward before imaging patients.
Follows fall precautions.
Ensures appropriate supplies are available for the procedure.
Recognizes patient distress signs initiates and follows emergency procedures.
Utilizes sterile or aseptic technique where applicable.
Exhibits professional and courteous customer service at all times.
Other duties as assigned.
Demonstrates knowledge of Age Specific Criteria in carrying out work duties and tasks.
Demonstrates the ability to address and handle patient care concerns. Notifies the radiologist when gross pathological findings are discovered.
Seeks opportunities to assist in overall patient care activities including escorting patients from holding areas to scanner offering to work over when needed assisting peers and nursing staff.
Demonstrates the ability to address and handle patient care concerns by utilizing critical thinking to make sound decisions within the approved ranges set by the radiologists and section to manage contingencies.
EDUCATION
Required:High School Diploma.
Graduate of an approved Ultrasound School.
ARRT or ARDMS registered (must be registered within one year of employment).
EXPERIENCE
One (1) year ultrasound experience.
Registered as a vascular technologist.
Functional knowledge of Doppler principles.
X-ray technology background preferred.
Must be able to independently perform a multitude of exams using a standard LICENSURE & CERTIFICATIONSMedical Radiologic Technologist license (MRT) from the Texas Department of State Health Services.
American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in sonography credentials OR ARDMS (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers).
Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) / CPR through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
Preferred Certification:American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in sonography credentials.
