Long-Term Substitute Spanish Instructor (0.5 FTE) Needed
Location: Charlotte Central School
Charlotte Central School (CCS) seeks an engaging flexible and collaborative Long-Term Substitute Spanish Instructor (up to 0.50 FTE) to teach Spanish to students in grades 58 through an opt-in Flexible Instructional Block model and to facilitate Spanish enrichment clubs for grades K2 34 and 58. This position is designed to continue the strong foundation created by the current instructor and emphasizes consistency for students staff and families. The objective is to support students in grades K8 in acquiring Spanish language skills and cultural understanding through high-quality instruction enrichment and student-centered engagement in alignment with the CVSD mission.
The unique position follows an established weekly schedule considered ideal for maintaining instructional routines:
- Monday: 11:25 AM 4:30 PM
- Tuesday: 11:25 AM 4:30 PM
- Wednesday: 11:25 AM 1:35 PM
- Thursday: 11:25 AM 4:30 PM
- Friday: 11:25 AM 1:35 PM
Slight adjustments may be considered based on candidate availability; however maintaining this structure is preferred.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Planning & Preparation:
- Design instruction that reflects solid Spanish content knowledge strong pedagogical practice and connections across disciplines.
- Incorporate current research language-learning standards and best practices into instructional planning.
- Demonstrate knowledge of students developmental cultural academic and social characteristics.
- Design coherent instructional units and learning activities tailored to diverse learners.
- Effectively use assessment data to inform instruction and support student growth.
Learning Environment:
- Create a classroom environment that is culturally responsive respectful and conducive to learning.
- Establish high expectations and promote student engagement participation and pride in their work.
- Manage routines transitions and materials efficiently.
- Maintain clear expectations for student behavior and respond to misbehavior calmly respectfully and effectively.
- Provide a safe and accessible learning environment for all students.
Instruction:
- Communicate directions expectations and content clearly in both spoken and written language.
- Use questioning discussion and interactive techniques to promote student thinking and language use.
- Engage students actively in learning through varied instructional materials strategies and activities.
- Provide timely specific and constructive feedback to students.
- Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness to meet diverse student needs.
Professional Responsibilities:
- Assess and reflect on instructional effectiveness and adjust practices accordingly.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with families about student progress and program goals.
- Maintain accurate complete and confidential records.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues administrators and support staff.
- Participate in school and district meetings professional development and committees as needed.
- Maintain high standards of professionalism integrity and adherence to CVSD policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors degree required.
- Holds or is eligible to hold a Vermont Teaching License with appropriate endorsement.
- Demonstrated understanding of language instruction and age-appropriate pedagogy.
- Strong interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively with students colleagues and families.
- Dependability flexibility attention to detail and the ability to maintain composure in a busy school environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively and maintain a student-centered mindset.
