Job Summary

The Dental Assistant Education Instructor will play a key role in delivering high-quality education to students enrolled in the Dental Assistant Program at Denver Health. The instructor will be responsible for teaching students the necessary clinical operational and administrative skills required in the dental assisting field following the guidelines and standards set by the American Dental Association and other regulatory bodies. The Dental Assistant Instructor will assist with curriculum development student evaluation and provide hands-on training in both classroom and clinical settings. The role requires a collaborative approach working closely with students faculty and other departments to ensure successful student outcomes.

Essential Functions:

  • Classroom Instruction & Curriculum Implementation
    Develop and deliver engaging lessons in the classroom covering topics such as dental assisting techniques chairside procedures infection control radiology and dental office operations. Assist in planning daily activities and module materials to meet program objectives. (40%)
  • Clinical Supervision & Skills Development
    Provide direct oversight and instruction in dental clinic settings. Supervise students during clinical rotations ensuring proper procedures safety protocols and infection control measures are followed. Assist with teaching lab procedures and techniques including radiography chairside assisting patient seating and sterilization. (25%)
  • Student Assessment & Mentorship
    Evaluate student progress including clinical skills theoretical knowledge and professional development. Provide constructive feedback to students offering guidance and support to help them achieve program goals. Conduct regular assessments to ensure competency in core areas of dental assisting. (15%)
  • Program Support & Administrative Duties
    Assist with the development and review of program curricula and materials to ensure they align with accreditation standards. Prepare final grades for students update student records and contribute to student success plans. Maintain accurate documentation of student performance. (10%)
  • Clinic & Equipment Support
    Collaborate with clinic staff to maintain a safe and effective learning environment. Assist in ordering and inventory management of supplies and dental equipment. Ensure that clinic spaces are properly stocked and prepared for student training. (5%)
  • Liaison & Coordination
    Serve as a point of contact for students faculty and clinic staff. Assist in organizing field trips guest speakers and other extracurricular learning activities. Travel to affiliated clinic sites as needed to provide additional training and support. (5%)


Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED required AND
  • Post High School Diploma or Certificate Program Graduation from an accredited Dental Assistant Program required


Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Dental Assistant with practical hands-on experience in various dental specialties (e.g. Pedodontics Prosthetics Oral Surgery etc.). required AND
  • 1-3 years of experience with staff coaching training or equivalent educational instruction required


Licenses:

  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross required AND
  • DENTALRD-Dental Radiology - DANB - Dental Assisting National Board Inc required


Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of dental assisting procedures including but not limited to radiography chairside assisting sterilization practices and infection control.
  • Knowledge of registration process scheduling fee schedule and insurance plans.
  • Ability to effectively teach clinical and theoretical concepts demonstrating procedures and assisting students in a dental clinic environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel PowerPoint) and familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems. Epic preferred but not required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and mentor students in a learning environment.
  • Ability to maintain a safe and effective learning environment ensuring compliance with regulatory and safety standards.
  • Ability to travel to clinic sites as required and work collaboratively with clinic staff and students.
  • Prepare and deliver engaging lesson plans that align with the curriculum.
  • Provide hands-on training and supervision in laboratory or clinical settings.
  • Assess and provide constructive feedback on student performance.
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and college policies.
  • Act as a mentor promoting professionalism and strong work ethics.
  • Maintain student records including grades and attendance
  • Provide academic advising and support student retention efforts.
  • Participate in curriculum development and program evaluation.
  • Attend faculty meetings workshops and graduation ceremonies.
  • Support externship site development and student placements.
  • Maintain classroom and equipment standards.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and integrate them into instruction.
