With the anticipation of opening a new building in March 2026 we are searching for a Maintenance Coordinator to join our Shannex Transitional Health Services Limited team providing transitional care services at West Bedford Transitional Health in West Bedford Nova Scotia.
Through an innovative partnership with Nova Scotia Health (NSH) Shannex proudly operates the provinces first transitional health facility in West Bedford. This facility provides specialized care for NSH patients in the central zone who no longer require hospital care but need additional support and services before safely returning home or to their community.
Reporting to the Building and Services Manager the Maintenance Coordinator oversees maintenance and plant operations for the facility. Through the development and management of environmental safety programs he/she ensures compliance with applicable local provincial and federal regulations.

About the Opportunity
- Performs general maintenance duties and scheduled preventive maintenance work on physical facilities equipment and grounds.
- Conducts routine and follow-up inspections to determine compliance with Occupational Health and Safety rules and regulations chemical and general safety standards; submits reports and makes recommendations and/or takes appropriate action to minimize potential safety health and environmental risks.
- Maintains current knowledge of changes in provincial federal OHS and other safety codes and regulations as applicable.
- Develops and implements systems to maintain records on equipment physical plant hazardous materials and compliance activities.
- Administers the operating budget for plant and building services; prepares purchase orders verifies and approves invoices for payment.
- Determines immediate and long-range needs for maintenance and repair work; consults with the designated manager related to priorities on major projects.
- Schedules and coordinates work projects; inspects work in progress and upon completion for compliance with applicable local provincial and federal regulations.
- Participates in emergency (disaster) plan and mock disaster exercises.
- Works in conjunction with Shannex fire and safety policies to help train staff in fire safety techniques; schedules fire drills and evaluates performance effectiveness.
- Promotes a safety culture (or acts as a safety role model) by taking every reasonable precaution in the circumstances to ensure the health and safety of employees and all others in the workplace including but not limited to providing supervision training information and equipment needed for employees to do their job safely.

About You
In addition to placing high value on continuous improvement collaboration and accountability you bring:
- Journeyman Trade Certificate in one of the Buildings Trades or equivalent experience in building maintenance or construction.
- Minimum 2-years experience working in building maintenance or construction
- Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Maintenance Tracking software such as Asset Planner
- Ability to provide a clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check upon hire
- Knowledge of WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety legislation
- Knowledge of tools and equipment used in the building/mechanical trades
- Knowledge of heating ventilating and lighting systems used in the facility
- Ability to use hand and power tools (e.g. electric drills saws measuring and cutting devices)
- Bilingualism in both French and English considered an asset
