Job Summary
The Specialist-Technical Services is primarily responsible for assisting the Librarian-Technical Services with electronic and physical library acquisitions cataloging data entry office management and other library projects.
Essential Functions
Verifies bibliographic information on book titles before ordering Prepares book orders verifies book deliveries against invoices and maintains records of book acquisitions Searches catalog records in bibliographic database Performs descriptive cataloging using library applications software and assists with OCLC reports Processes physical volumes and performs minor repairs as needed Assists Technical Services Librarian with all major projects Expected to work some evenings and as needed weekend hours Cross-train with other library departments to provide library services as needed Other duties as assigned
Physical Demands
Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time The person in this position needs to move throughout the library and to other locations on campus Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation Use of manual dexterity The person in this position frequently communicates with others verbally and electronically; must be able to exchange accurate information Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision and the ability to adjust focus Frequently moves boxes or equipment weighing up to 20 pounds
Required Qualifications
Associate Degree or equivalent (60 college credit hours); or High School diploma or equivalent and two years of clerical and general office experience Demonstrated attention to detail Knowledge of general office equipment such as scanner copier and multi-line telephone Computer literacy to include proficiency with Microsoft Office Suites Excellent communication and collaboration skills Strong organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
Associate degree or higher Demonstrated understanding of MARC records and Library of Congress Classification One year of library experience with demonstrated experience using Library software (SirsiDynix Ex Libris Alma Polaris etc.) Technical library experience or data entry experience
