The City of Greeley is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic I IV to join the Water Treatment Facilities at Bellvue and Boyd Lake in the Water & Sewer Department. The Maintenance Mechanic will report to the Water Treatment Superintendent at Boyd Lake and will be responsible for performing scheduled preventative maintenance inspections using diagnostic skills and equipment to maintain and repair motors engines pumps and other water treatment equipment at two water treatment plants.

This position will supporttwo water treatment plants located in Loveland Colorado and Bellvue Colorado.The home base for this position will be the Loveland Colorado at the Boyd Lake Water Treatment Plant.

Experience Knowledge and Skills:

Minimum Requirements:

All levels:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Basic mechanical and electrical skills; familiarity with hand tools and equipment maintenance.
  • Familiarity with electrical safety techniques electrical diagrams and multi-meters.
  • Must be able to respond on-site within 45 minutes for after-hours emergencies.

Mechanic I:

  • Six (6) months to two (2) years of experience maintaining equipment of a small water system maintenance repair and adjustment of motors engines pumps and other water plant processing equipment from heavy diesel to small engines or similar field.

  • Current Colorado Water Professional Operator Class D Certification or ability to obtain within one and a half (1.5) years of hire

Mechanic II:

  • Two (2) to three (3) years of experience maintaining equipment of a small water system maintenance repair and adjustment of motors engines pumps and other water plant processing equipment from heavy diesel to small engines or similar field.

  • One (1) year of experience with SCADA and asset management related systems including CityWorks.

  • Knowledge of proper handling and processing procedures for chemical handling/delivery.

  • Current Colorado Water Professional Operator Class D Certification or higher.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of equipment such as valves PRVs bearings seals packing belts and how they are used.

  • Moderate knowledge of construction prints as-builts and GIS mapping.

Mechanic III:

  • Four (4) years of experience repairing and troubleshooting theoperation of a small water system maintenance repair and adjustment of motors engines pumps and other water plant processing equipment from heavy diesel to small engines or similar field desired.

  • Four (4) years of experience in water treatment field or industrial environment preferred.

  • Knowledge of proper handling and processing procedures for chemical handling/delivery.

  • Two (2) years of experience with SCADA and asset management related systems including CityWorks.

  • Electrical troubleshooting skills desired or the ability to learn.

  • Current Colorado Water Professional Operator Class D Certification or higher..

Mechanic IV:

  • Five (5) years of experiencerepairing and troubleshooting theoperation of a small water system maintenance repair and adjustment of motors engines pumps and other water plant processing equipment from heavy diesel to small engines or similar field.

  • Two (2) years of experience with SCADA and asset management related systems including CityWorks

  • Current Colorado Water Treatment Professional Operator Class D Certificationor higher.

  • Current Class B CDL or higher or the ability to obtain within one (1) year.

OR

  • A combination of related education experience certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.

AND

  • Possession of a valid drivers license.

Preferred:

  • Current Class A or B Commercial Drivers License (CDL) or the ability to obtain within one (1) year preferred.

  • Two (2)-year certificate from a trade school related to the industrial mechanical or electrical environment preferred.

  • HVAC experience preferred.

  • Experience with welding/fabrication (TIG MIG and stick welders) preferred.

  • Experience with pipe fitting in PVC CPVC and steel.

  • Confined Space Rescue Certified

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Essential Functions (Duties and Responsibilities):

  • Reads and comprehends Operations & Maintenance (O&M) manualsmechanical and electrical drawings

  • Produces written records with clearly organized information in CityWorks.

  • Works independently and follows safe work practices.

  • Works with a variety of hand and electric-powered tools.

  • Works withequipment tools and machinery associated with plant maintenance including boom truck drilling equipment power equipment heavy equipment and hand tools.

  • Designs and constructs equipment modifications; cuts fits and installs various steel and aluminum fittings; installs measuring devices.

  • Performs scheduled maintenance on machinery including pump station pumps piping and equipment submersible pumps electric and gas driven motors control systems gear drives generators compressors air control systems and valves.

  • Performs scheduled maintenance on small and large repair projects and the installation or replacement of related machinery. Adjusts lubricate aligns diagnoses and repairs equipment or machinery.

  • Conducts daily and routine maintenance scheduling; evaluates assigned projects. Estimates the time materials and equipment necessary for the successful completion of the project. Acquires the necessary materials supplies and resources.

  • Performs or other tasks and duties as may be assigned.

  • Maintains the facilities for cleanliness.

  • Keeps a safe working environment through confined space entry and wearing a harness during inspections.

  • Performs preventive predictive and corrective maintenance on equipment.

  • Creates Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and adjusts them as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

TRAVEL: Category B Regular Local/Field Based Travel: This position requires regular travel within the County and nearby cities. Employees frequently travel to field sites client locations or other City buildings as part of their job duties. Access to a personal or City fleet vehicle may be required.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Work Environment:

  • Work shift is Monday Friday 6:30 am to 3pm no weekends rotating shifts or holidays unless needed in an emergency call out.
    • There are two water plants that will require support from this position. One plant is in Loveland CO and the other is in Bellvue CO. The home base for this position will be the Loveland facility.
  • Frequently works alone.
  • Work in all weather conditions (extremes in heat cold wind humidity precipitation and wet conditions).
  • Exposure to machinery noise vibration and moving mechanical parts.
  • Frequent exposure to biohazards caustic chemicals dust airborne particles fumes gases and poor ventilation.
  • Risk of electrical shock.
  • Working around water treatment facilities electrical switchgear scaffolding high places trenches vaults and uneven/slippery terrain.
  • Frequent interruptions deadlines

Physical Demands:

  • Work in confined spaces (e.g. manholes excavations vaults).
  • Perform strenuous physical labor: lift up to 50 lbs. frequently and up to 100 lbs. occasionally.
  • Bend twist walk climb balance stoop kneel crouch crawl reach load and unload equipment supplies and tools in field conditions.
  • Use ladders awkward positions and heavy tools/equipment.
  • Ability to move over rough uneven and rocky surfaces in performance of maintenance duties.
  • Strong visual acuity for close/distance vision color depth perception and focus; ability to identify materials necessary to complete maintenance on equipment.
  • Ability to read data/figures operate machines inspect defects and monitor gauges/dials.
  • Operate vehicles heavy equipment and precision tools.
  • Manual dexterity to handle tools and equipment safely and effectively.
  • Ability to communicate convey information to co-workers customers and supervisor.
