The opportunity:
We have an exciting opening within our Life Reinsurance team in Brussels to support the global growth of our portfolio. This role will report directly to our Head of Underwriting & Global Product Head.
This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic and collaborative environment where your expertise will help shape the future of our business.
Initial placement is in Brussels with potential for future relocation to other QBE Re offices.
The applicant will assist the Head of Underwriting & Global Product Head with strategic initiatives including:
Your role:
Primary Responsibilities
-Being able to support the quote of large or non-standard life deals. Life reinsurance pricing knowledge is a must.
-Travel and visiting both existing markets (in Latam and Europe) and potential new markets across the world.
-Build and maintain an international network of life reinsurance contacts and expertise.
-Contribute to the delivery of the annual business plan for the respective business unit by making appropriate decisions
-Apply the reinsurance strategy in order to safeguard the portfolio
-Participate in all relevant meetings in order to share and develop strategy knowledge and best practice
-Promote QBE Res brand and values in all professional interactions.
-Perform underwriting activities in accordance with all legal and regulatory requirements to ensure obligations are met
-Ensure compliance with underwriting standards legal and regulatory requirements.
-Ensure the recording and measurement of reinsurance risks (including delegated underwriting authorities if relevant) to ensure accuracy and good practice
-Understand and comply with any retrocession requirements to minimize risk and to deliver business plan objectives
-Establish strengthen and develop relationships with stakeholders including customers brokers business partners and colleagues to maximize influence and achieve business objectives
-Demonstrate an understanding and awareness of market dynamics and market cycle to enhance business performance
-Maintain expertise and team knowledge through identifying appropriate learning and development activities
-Underwrite reinsurance risks in accordance with the business plan and the delegated underwriting authority to meet business objectives including: Negotiating rates terms and conditions for existing and new business Compliance of production and issue of contract certainty documentation Ensuring compliance with internal and external regulations and guidelines Ensuring contribution to the business plan and objectives Support credit control in payment collection
-Participate in the review and analysis of the portfolio to identify progress toward business objectives
-Ensure entries are properly and promptly recorded on EO systems to ensure accuracy of data in relation to: Underwriting Aggregate exposures
-Contribute to the aggregate management and peer review processes to encourage and develop excellence
-Motivate and coach team members to ensure the relevant knowledge and expertise is shared for their continuing personal and professional development
Preferred Competencies/Skills
Minimum 5-15 years of experience in life reinsurance
Being a Life Actuary is a
Strong commercial acumen and desire to develop commercial expertise
A high level of numeracy and literacy; strong organizational prioritization and analytical skills
Willingness to travel internationally
Excellent interpersonal communication and negotiation abilities.
Attention to detail with a strategic global perspective.
Strong attention to detail with ability to have a global view on the portfolio
High level of autonomy creativity positive attitude and entrepreneurial mindset
Minimum C1 level English proficiency; additional languages are an asset.
Preferred Knowledge
In-depth understanding of life reinsurance underwriting and market conditions.
Proven knowledge of relevant market conditions for specific class/portfolio
Good knowledge of relevant QBE underwriting systems
Intermediate level understanding of relevant software including Excel and other departmental software packages
Good knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements
Understanding of QBE underwriting processes and procedures.
