Job Summary

Lewis Central Community School District is looking for full-time full-year lead custodian for the evening shift for our middle school building.

Job Title: Lead Custodian

Shifts: Evening (3:00-11:30pm)

Supervisor: Facility Manager and Evening Custodial Supervisor

Employment Status: Full-Time Full-Year

FLSA Status: Hourly Non-Exempt

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • 1-2 years of custodial or facilities maintenance experience preferably within the district.

Summary

  • Maintains the Districts school facilities in such a state of operating excellence that they present no problems or interruptions to the educational program. Provides guidance and support to evening custodial staff assigned to school facilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis.
  • Provides guidance and support to evening custodial staff and assists with training new employees.
  • Acts as a point of contact for the custodial team and assists with coordinating daily tasks.
  • Cleans and preserve designated spaces equipment assigned buildings so that health standards are met.
  • Clean rugs carpets upholstered furniture and/or draperies using vacuum cleaners and/or shampooers.
  • Sweep scrub wax and/or polish floors using brooms mops and/or powered scrubbers. Dust and polish furniture and equipment.
  • Wash windows walls ceilings and woodwork waxing and polishing as necessary.
  • Empty wastebaskets and transport other trash and waste to disposal areas.
  • Move and arrange furniture as required.
  • Set and take down lunch tables.
  • Set up chairs tables and other furniture for special events.
  • Assists with building snow removal minor landscaping and grounds maintenance as requested.
  • Remove debris from driveways garages bus loading areas and entrances to buildings.
  • Raise and lower flag at beginning and end of day when applicable.
  • Fill in for other shift custodial absence as required by Administration.
  • Makes recommendations to improve service and ensure more efficient operation.
  • Examines building and reports the needs for repairs of failed equipment.
  • Request repair work as discovered and report needs immediately for maintenance.
  • Reports any maintenance custodial or staff issues to the Evening Custodial Supervisor or Facility Manager.
  • Provides input to the Evening Custodial Supervisor on staff performance.
  • Keep equipment and work area clean and neat.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs as needed.
  • Follows the chain of command as required.
  • Restock disposable items and provide inventory usage and data.
  • Requests supplies and equipment to complete required cleaning.
  • Assist visiting public utilizing the facilities with directions within the building and in obtaining and setting up equipment.
  • Sort clothing and other articles load washing machines and fold dried items.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities. Provides guidance and leadership to the custodial team as assigned.

Additional Position Information:


Hours/Schedule: Lead evening custodians are scheduled in our buildingsweekdays (Monday through Friday) from 3:00pm to 11:30pm. In addition to their regularly scheduled shift a lead custodian may be asked to work events (usually held during evening or weekend hours) for any building in the District outside of their normal working hours. Mandatory overtime is not required but overtime is available and will occasionally be asked of the lead custodian.

Rate of pay:The current base rate for the leave custodians is $16.00 per hour. Depending on previous work experience or any relatable education or certifications you may hold this rate could increase by $1.00 to $2.00 more per hour. Final determination ofapplicants individual starting pay rate will be determined bythe Business Office/HR.

A $30000 life insurance policy at no cost to the employeeand have the ability to enroll in a few supplemental insurance programs (vision accident/critical illness). All staff are automatically enrolled from day one in the state sponsored retirement program IPERS. The District contributes 9.44% of your wages to this. IPERS requires that you contribute 6.29% of your wages.

Paid Leaves/Holidays:The District offers both paid sick leave paid personal leave and paid vacation leave for this position. This position has 8 paid holidays; 4th of July Labor Day Thanksgiving Day and the day following Christmas Day New Years Day Good Friday and Memorial Day.
