We are looking for a Senior Drawing/Model Checker to support NASA for our MIPSS contract located at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville AL.
General Summary:
Senior design checker on our NASA/Marshall Space Flight Center Checking and Release team to support NASA. Evaluate mechanical and/or electro-mechanical designs for completeness and ensure that items can be fabricated as designed. Review drawings/models for conformance to the applicable NASA requirements. Examine engineering drawings and models of Aerospace parts assemblies and installations to detect errors in design documents. Evaluate information on production drawings or diagrams for accuracy of dimensions and tolerances that promotes the precise and accurate assembly of parts. Work closely with designers to ensure best product results.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities: May provide support in one or more the following areas:
Perform evaluation of mechanical electrical and/or electro- mechanical CAD for completeness and compliance with Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) drawing standard MSFC-STD-555 MSFC-STD-2806 MSFC Tailoring Standard for the Global Drawing Requirements Manual (GDRM) and MSFC-STD-3528 Computer-Aided Design (CAD) Standard as well as other NASA/ Military/Industry documentation including the Global Drawing Requirements Manual (GDRM) in support of MSFC programs/projects.
Evaluate mechanical electrical and/or electro- mechanical hardware designs for compatibility to system and subsystem specifications and ensure adequate specifications and procedures are called out for the fabrication of the design.
Perform Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) fit checks of detailed and assembly designs in accordance with American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Y14.5M.
Advise design personnel regarding drawing and design practices and procedures.
Maintain a current and up-to-date knowledge of developments in the design disciplines drawing/data requirements as well as all interrelated disciplines of the design build team.
Job Specifications/Requirements:
Bachelors Degree and a minimum of 18 years of applicable experience is required to include mechanical/electrical design and/or checking experience. A Masters degree may be used to substitute for 3 years experience. The following may be substituted for the Bachelors degree requirement: High School Diploma and 21 yrs experience.
Expert knowledge of PTC Creo 10.0 is preferred but other systems such as CATIA Solid Works Solid Edge or Auto CAD Inventor may be considered.
Expert knowledge of MSFC-STD-555 and other MSFC design requirements is preferred.
ASME GD&T certification desired.
Ability to obtain clearance/access onsite at NASA MSFC is required.
US Citizenship required.
