About the role

As our Child & Family Counsellor you will walk alongside vulnerable families helping them heal from complex trauma and strengthen their relationships. You will work with children young people and their families who have experienced domestic and family violence (DFV) sexual assault abuse bullying and other forms of vulnerability and disadvantage.

Duties

  • Deliver high-quality counselling and psychotherapy to families impacted by trauma including DFV historical child sexual assault and mental health concerns.
  • Conduct strengths-based assessments implement risk minimisation strategies and develop safety plans.
  • Co-facilitate therapeutic group work and psychoeducation programs for women children and young people.
  • Provide case management and coordinate wraparound supports in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Apply a trauma-informed strengths-based approach within an integrated service model to help families heal and strengthen relationships.

Skills and Experience

You will be a Counsellor Psychologist or Social Worker with:

  • 5 years experience counselling families impacted by DFV and trauma (including children/young people).
  • Strong understanding of attachment and the impacts of adversity on childrens developmental outcomes and relationships.
  • A trauma-informed strengths-based approach using a range of therapeutic modalities.
  • Clear understanding of child protection and mandatory reporting requirements.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills.
  • A respectful culturally sensitive approach to working with clients from diverse backgrounds.
  • Relevant tertiary (degree) qualification in counselling art therapy social work or other related discipline.
