About the Role

St Catherines School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Counsellor to join our Student Wellbeing Team on a part-time basis from Term 1 to Term 3 2026.

This vital role is responsible for delivering counselling and wellbeing support to students helping to enhance their emotional psychological and physical wellbeing. The School Counsellor works collaboratively with support staff families and teaching teams to promote resilience contribute to wellbeing programs and provide expert support in times of personal or community need.

The position reports to the Deputy Principal with a dotted reporting line to the Principal and plays a key part in maintaining a professional responsive and values-driven approach to student care across the School community.

To be successful in this opportunity you will require:

  • Experience within the school education sector will be a distinct advantage.
  • Qualifications in Counselling Social Work Youth Work or Psychology (provisional or unregistered).
  • Demonstrated understanding of student mental health and wellbeing.
  • Ability to provide short-term counselling and wellbeing interventions.
  • Ability to identify when issues require referral to a registered psychologist or external professional.
  • Knowledge of child protection legislation and reporting responsibilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with young people families and staff.
  • Collaborative approach to supporting student wellbeing in conjunction with other support staff.
  • High degree of professionalism discretion and sensitivity.
  • Strong organisational and record-keeping skills.
  • Proactive and adaptable with a passion for supporting student wellbeing.
  • Commitment to the ethos and values of the School.
