Job Summary

The Greater Essex County District School Board invites applications from interested qualified members of the Continuing Education Bargaining Unit and contract or occasional elementary or secondary teachers for the position of Academic Tutors for Black African Caribbean Students after school (Grades 1-6 and 7-12).


Job Summary:


TERM OF APPOINTMENT: December 2025 until the first week of June 2026.

DUTIES COMMENCING: December 2025

RATE OF PAY: $45.74 per hour including vacation and statutory holidays

ADDITIONAL INFO: We encourage applicants who self-identify as Black African and or/or Afro-Caribbean to apply. The total number of hours for each Black African and/or Caribbean Student Support Tutor may not exceed 32 hours per month subject to renewal. There will be a mandatory orientation training session as well as periodic team meetings.


Nature & Scope of Position:


  • We are particularly searching for those with strong instructional skills in the area of intermediate and senior mathematics.
  • Work with students from grades 1-6 and grades 7-12 to provide additional academic support in the areas of literacy and numeracy.
  • Support students from grades 1-6 and grades 7-12 who may have an Individual Learning Plan.

THE TUTOR WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

  • Contacting parents/guardians and students to schedule virtual and/or in-person tutoring times.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to and documented success in working to create a fair inclusive antracist environment for all stakeholders and to support diverse constituencies and populations.
  • Providing academic support in accordance with the Ontario Curriculum.
  • Communicating and tracking progress with parents/guardians and the Superintendent of
  • Education responsible for Equity.


Qualifications:


  • Ontario Teachers Qualifications (Ontario Teaching Certificate required).
  • Superior literacy and numeracy skills.
  • This is a designated position for those that identify as Black African and/or Afro-Caribbean.
  • Looking for candidates with strong instructional skills in the area of intermediate and senior mathematics.

Please note: The selection of the successful candidate will be prioritized as follows:

  • Qualified members of the Continuing Education bargaining unit.
  • Teachers with 5 years contract experience.
  • Teachers with less than 5 years contract teaching experience and occasional teachers.
  • If there are no applicants with less than 5 years contract teaching or occasional teaching experience external candidates will be considered.
