Job Summary

JOB SUMMARY:

Oversee all Legal & Business Affairs aspects at Universal Kids Resort (UKR) in Frisco TX including the theme park and hotel. Leads negotiations drafting and interpreting complex commercial contracts letter agreements service contracts licenses and other legal documentation and provides guidance and advice on all legal matters including ride safety and hotel operations. Manages compliance and regulatory requirements contractual obligations and dispute resolution. Ensures alignment and compliance with all UDX and NBCU policies and Legal operations and works closely with UDX Legal on marketing litigation and other legal matters. Oversee the management and resolution of all litigation matters and manages legal staff as well as outside counsel.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages the UKR Legal Department and provides legal support for Universal Kids Resort theme park and hotel. Negotiates drafts and interprets complex commercial contracts covering a variety of procurement technology marketing and sales intellectual property licensing promotions leasing construction and a variety of commercial services.
  • Ensures compliance with all UDX and NBCU corporate policies and procedures and alignment with UDX Legal. Reviews and interprets applicable law statutes regulations and pending legislation and any best practices applicable to UKR operations. Oversee ride safety compliance and manages all risk mitigation and claims management. Participates in the development of training materials surrounding contractual compliance licensing requirements regulatory obligations and required internal approvals.
  • Provides oversight management and tracking of corporate compliance including contractual commitments.
  • Identifies and implements efficiencies in contracting procedures balancing risk tolerance with business initiatives. Ensures wholly owned and operated hotel adheres to all local regulations and contractual agreements.
  • Understand and actively participate in Environmental Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UDX policy procedures training and Team Member involvement activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Supervises an Exempt team.

  • Strong contract drafting for commercial agreements.
  • Possess business acumen with the proven capability to lead and drive change in a matrixed environment.
  • Strong written verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong prioritization and time management skills
  • Must be a self-starter capable of working with various elements within a diverse organization to provide the highest level of service
  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision is required.
  • Integrity honesty and trust and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality are also imperative to this role.

CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES:

  • Member of Texas State Bar.

EDUCATION:

  • Juris Doctorate or LLM from an accredited law school is required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 10 years of post-law school experience as an Attorney is required preferably with 4 years of corporate legal department experience interpreting negotiating and drafting complex commercial transactions; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
