Job Summary

The Economics Department is looking for highly motivated junior economists to join our Paris-based office and carry out policy-oriented research on macroeconomic and structural issues. They will draft analytical reports country and policy reports and undertake empirical analysis on a wide range of economic topics. They will also interact with a broad array of stakeholders including governments academia and other international organisations.

The selected persons will work under the supervision of a Senior Economist. 

Main Responsibilities 

Research and drafting 

  • Undertake research and contribute to the production of documents working papers and publications including drafting notes and preparing technical annexes.  

Empirical work and analysis

  • Carry out statistical and applied econometric work. 
  • Review documentation and survey economic research on a wide range of economic topics.  
  • Use and/or establish programs and procedures in various software packages to allow statistical and econometric analysis as well as the production of tables and graphs. 

Data collection  

  • Collect information and data from relevant sources for the purpose of compiling specific databases. 
  • Check the data to ensure reliability and comparability. 

Qualifications :

Academic Background 

  • A Masters degree in economics or econometrics. 
  • A PhD (or completion in 2026) would be a definite advantage. 

Professional Background 

  • One to two years experience with economic statistics and advanced econometric techniques (including various time-series and panel data techniques) and/or with the development use and estimation of applied economic models.  
  • Sound knowledge of macro microeconomics and related policy issues. 
  • An ability to distil policy implications from research work. 
  • Applied research experience with microdata including at the firm-level household-level and emerging big datasets would be an asset.  
  • International experience in research and analytical activities through studies internships or professional activities would be an asset.  
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals would be an advantage. 
  • Experience working independently but also in teams on complex issues. 
  • Enthusiasm to work in a diverse workplace and the ability to adapt to cultural differences. 

Tools 

  • Very good proficiency in the use of econometric packages (such as Eviews Stata or Matlab).  
  • Experience with machine-learning tools in Python or R would be an asset. 

Core Competencies 

  • OECD staff are expected to demonstrate behaviours aligned to six core competencies which will be assessed as part of this hiring processes: Vision and Strategy (Level 1); Enable People (Level 1); Ethics and Integrity (Level 1); Collaboration and Horizontality (Level 2); Achieve Results (Level 1); Innovate and Embrace Change (Level 2). 
  • There are three possible levels for each competency. The level for each competency is determined according to the specific needs of each job role and its associated grade. 
  • To learn more about the definitions for each competency for levels 1-3 please refer to OECD Core Competencies. 

Languages 

  • This position requires fluency in one of the two OECD official languages (English and French) and knowledge of the other with a commitment to reach a good working level. 
  • Knowledge of other languages would be an asset.

Contract Duration 

  •  This vacancy will be used to fill multiple positions. The appointment type (fixed-term or open-ended) will be determined based on the needs of the Directorate and will be confirmed when an offer of employment is made to the selected candidate.

For retained candidates the selection process may include a job-based assessment and panel interviews. 

This job description encompasses multiple positions. Successful candidates will be included in a recruitment pool for a period of two years. 

When the need arises the Directorate will contact the relevant candidate(s) to discuss availability and complete the hiring process.
