Tourism at Otago goes beyond conventional thinking and explores all aspects of the industry focusing on local and international tourism perspectives so that students understand the big picture as well as the day-to-day tourism operations.

The role Te mahi

We are seeking to appoint a permanent Teaching Fellow role in the Department of Tourism.

In this role you will contribute to the development of teaching content and delivery of teaching across our undergraduate curriculum in Tourism. Specifically the TOUR216 Sports Tourism paper TOUR101 and other teaching into the equivalent of 1 undergraduate or postgraduate paper as required. This may include a new adventure tourism paper which is intended from 2027. You will also be involved with collaborative teaching activities assessing student performance and collaboratively developing course content and teaching materials.

This is an opportunity for an energetic creative and committed individual to significantly contribute to the teaching curriculum in a collegial and dynamic department and university.

The prime functions for this role are:
Provide teaching-related support and administration within the Department of Tourism.
Assisting in preparation of teaching material course assessments and feedback to students and
Contribute to the Departments academic goals where appropriate.

Your skills and experience Kā pūkeka me kā wheako

You will have aptitude for effective teaching at tertiary level as well as:
Bachelor of Commerce degree or higher in Tourism or related commerce degree or may hold or be studying for a postgraduate degree.
Ability to work effectively as a member of a team and independently.
Proven ability to work with students and staff from differing academic and cultural backgrounds.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability and willingness to develop a firm commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) the Universitys Māori Strategic Framework and Pacific Strategic Framework and to equity.

This is a permanent part time (0.5 FTE) position based in Ōtepoti Dunedin. The position will be available from February 2026.

The salary range for this position is $75727 to $87849 per annum (pro rata).
