Who we are Ko wai mātou

The School of Surveying is a professional school within the Division of Sciences. The School supports studies within the Bachelor of Surveying (BSurv) degree BSc degrees in Surveying Measurement Land Planning and Development and in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Diploma for Graduates (DipGrad) Postgraduate Diploma of Science (PGDipSci) Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Science (PGDipAppSc GIS) Master of Surveying (MSurv) Master of Science (MSc) Master of Applied Science (MAppSc GIS) and the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees. Our teaching addresses research frontiers and real-world challenges in contemporary communities. Graduates from the School are in high demand both in Aotearoa New Zealand and internationally.

Research in the School applies diverse methodologies and our teaching is informed by both professional practice and the high-quality research undertaken by our academic staff. Our expertise embraces geodesy GNSS and precise positioning engineering surveying hydrographic surveying photogrammetry and 3D reality capture geographic information systems (GIS) statutory planning land tenure and cadastral surveying land development and urban design project management and professional development.

The school maintains workrooms well-equipped computer laboratories and other spaces that provide for the needs of students and a full range of modern electronic surveying equipment for both terrestrial and marine environments. We enjoy strong collaborations with researchers in the sciences humanities commerce and health sciences.

The role Te mahi

As a Teaching Fellow you will work under the guidance of the academic leads responsible for two first year papers within the BSurv (Bachelor of Surveying).

Your focus will be supporting learning and teaching in core Surveying undergraduate papers. Specifically those papers include but are not limited to:
SURV120 (Surveying and Spatial Science) and SURV130 (People Place and the Built Environment).

Key tasks of this role include:
Assisting in preparation of teaching material.
Running tutorials field work technical drafting and computer lab sessions.
Organising demonstrators and teaching materials.
Assisting with course assessments and feedback to students including on writing and maths support.
Providing pastoral care to students
Compliance with health and safety standards.

Your skills and experience Kā pūkeka me kā wheako

You will have aptitude for effective teaching at tertiary level as well as:
Masters or honours degree or higher in Surveying or other environmental physical engineering or geospatial field may hold or be studying for a postgraduate degree.
Ability to work effectively as a member of a team and independently.
Proven ability to work with students and staff from differing academic and cultural backgrounds.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
A current drivers license
A commitment to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi and to diversity/equal opportunity.

This is a permanent full time (1.0 FTE) position based in Ōtepoti Dunedin.

The salary range for this position is $75727 to $87849 (per annum).
