QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate must hold a Postgraduate Professional License with endorsements in Administration and Supervision and Special Education. A minimum of five years of progressive supervisory and leadership experience in the field of Special Education is required along with at least three years of school-level administrative experience. The ideal candidate will demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of instructional and compliance practices for students with disabilities as well as a strong understanding of both federal and state special education regulations. Expertise in curriculum development data-driven instructional practices and program evaluation is essential. Additionally the candidate should possess strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with staff families and community partners. The position requires demonstrated integrity professionalism and sound judgment in managing sensitive and confidential matters. DESCRIPTION
The Assistant Director of Student Services assists the Director of Student Services in providing leadership coordination and oversight of all special education programs across the division. This position supports the implementation of high-quality compliant and inclusive services designed to meet the academic behavioral and social-emotional needs of students with disabilities.The Assistant Director plays a key role in supervising staff ensuring program compliance with federal and state regulations supporting instructional best practices and fostering collaboration among schools families and community partners.
GENERAL DUTIES (May not include all duties performed)
- Support the Director of Student Services in leading and managing special education programming division-wide.
- Participate in the recruitment selection and assignment of special education and related services personnel.
- Provide instructional leadership and supervision for school-based special education programs.
- Assist in budget development staffing projections and monitoring of financial resources for special education.
- Develop implement and monitor procedures to ensure compliance with federal state and local mandates.
- Coordinate and provide ongoing professional development for special education teachers and support staff.
- Assist in preparing required state and federal reports including the Annual Plan Performance Indicators and Region 1 submissions.
- Supervise and evaluate assigned staff in accordance with division policy and state regulations.
- Provide guidance in curriculum implementation instructional materials selection and evidence-based interventions.
- Conduct formal and informal classroom observations and walkthroughs aligned with instructional standards and division goals.
- Monitor contracted services and ensure quality of agency partnerships and service delivery.
- Support the implementation of equitable inclusive and data-driven practices to improve outcomes for students with disabilities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services or designee.
SUPERVISION
This position reports directly to the Director of Student Services and provides direct supervision and evaluation to assigned departmental and school-based staff.
WORK CONDITIONS
Work is performed primarily in a school or office setting. The role requires frequent travel to school sites within the division. The position involves periods of sitting standing and walking and may require attendance at evening meetings or events. Work may occasionally involve high levels of pressure associated with compliance deadlines and problem-solving in sensitive situations. The Assistant Director is expected to demonstrate professionalism discretion and responsiveness in all interactions.
